Covers consenus we did here last playoffs picked Canucks over Sharks and Bruins over Lightning. Both were winners. The Consensus majority did pick Canucks over Bruins so it was 2 and 1.

The Sharks are just my pick you got that huh Cap? That is what the thread is for. For you to leave your pick bud. Then we tally the forum predictions to determine it. Not sure if you got that or you are just clowning....

Sooooooo do you have a pick???? Let's have it...

OK this was a case of mistaken "consensusususueseseses" ...sorry methought you were referring to that "covers consensususus page or some other square snapshot.

I don't have a pick because the season hasn't started thus I have no way of seeing how systems and personel mesh in the new arrangements

BUT.... if you are asking me to guess..... wellllllll.......  as I mentioned in another thread............ CAPS

BTW why do you like the Sharks?  BIG changes over there, you don't want to wait and see how that pans out bud??

I'm sure you have a solid reason, would like to hear it PB.

I only say CAPS cuz they needed solid consistent goaltending to put them over the top and they seem to have that, but again, who knows, VOKOUN could pull a Grant Fuhr and get run over by Nik Kypreos and his microphone in a scrum one day

Better discussed fully in another thread bud but in small context, I just feel they have learned how to win at that time now. I remember watching the Wings for example choking come playoff time year after year with Yzerman leading the way folding come crunch time, but eventually they learned how to get it done at the right time of year.

I do very much like the changes the Sharks made and I think that with their inner hunger at a very high level it will finally lead them to the promised land. Joe Thornton and a couple others there have been MUCH different and grittier the last couple of playoff seasons and I think that same effort with the new changes gets it done.

No way will ever back the Caps until they show they have some form of heart. If you employ people with zero heart like Alexander Semin there is no way in hell you are winning a stanley cup. That attitude is contagious and in the game of hockey a team can't survive that journey with it in their dressing room, I don't care if you have Dryden and Parent playing net together at the same time.

....so which players on the Sharks have been showing the most heart do you say?  Only thing we know for sure is there wasn't enough of it.  I have a feeling you think some of the folks they tossed out were those most lacking it?  In any case, heart is an important factor, but injuries, matchups etc. are equally important IMO.  Goaltending is the number one factor - and as vets on here you know I've always maintained this and will never be convinced otherwise.  Vokoun adds a whole new dimension.  If Semin is a box Ovechkin will talk to Gabby about getting him shipped out before he becomes too much of a liability

A note on heart: Nobody ever remembers the teams that had a ton of heart but not enough skill to get out of the second or third round.  You need skill to get to the show.  When two equally skilled teams make the show we start noticing hunger (as I call it) and only then.  Heart is totally overrated as it is never counted when it exists but a team fails anyway, critics point to the real factor, a lack of skill, and rightly so... when was the last time anyone said "Wow I can't believe TEAM A is out of the playoffs so early, they had SO MUCH heart, was sure that would compensate for bad goaltending and a lack of finesse."  Nuff said on heart.

I will stick with a Lightning  from east and Ducks from the west finals with the Lightning winning the Stanley Cup.

I don't think you get it. Playoffs are where you win the Stanley Cup. So if you cant wait for Caps to finish above Sabres in the regular season then good for you

Buffalo is a way better playoff team then Washington and Buffalo had a 3-1 lead in game 6 (up 3-2 in the series) to beat Philly and advance for a shot at Boston and they blew it. Washingtons a regular season hockey team only...soft, skilled Russians who can't battle enough in the playoffs

...well, if you translate "ahead of" to mean in the regular season standings then perhaps its you who "don't get it".

I am fairly certain that Buffalo will be 'eliminated before the Caps, how's that?

This may or may not be the case, I do not claim to know outcomes before the first puck has been dropped on a new season.  As I said, I do not typically make prognostications in the off season since I don't really see the point, too much is yet to be seen and appreciated.

neverlayoff, you are relatively new to our forum.  Most vets here will tell you the great thing about the hockey forum is how different it generally is from NBA, MLB etc... which are forums full of an inordinate number of goofs who claim to be great cappers and few great guys and cappers who can get lost in that shuffle.  A bit of modesty goes a long way in this forum - good luck on your picks this year all the same.

I agree, the Caps are soft and need to get tougher mentally and physically.  I think Ovechkin needs to be surrounded with a few players as tough as him.  I still feel at 10-1 (now 8-1 I believe) they are about the best value on the board.  I don't bet futures.

Ya I respect that, I started posting my MLB record and on the MLB forums its almost impossible to keep things in check/serious there with all the BS going on.

I followed the NHL forum and posted all of the 2010/2011 season so yea im relatively new. I respect your opinion, I just have very bold thoughts when it comes to the game I follow the most. Nothing against you or your opinion

Well we are all very confident around here, for sure.  The trick is trying not to sound overconfident lol... I actually like what's been happening in Buffalo too - new owner was such a godsend for that franchise
