Its hard to clearly elaborate why he is soooo adored by fans of the game, but I can only say when he fought there was never a moment of delay to anything he did, his right "piston" never stopped in its relentless cadence, regardless of what it was hitting or missing... and regardless of how off-balance he was, or whether he was on his back or on his head, the arm never stopped!!

I was in high school and university for his entire career (he's a year or two older than me and - I've met him - not an inch over 5'8" ) and I NEVER missed a game while he played... I will probably never say that again since I haven't seen a player since who could entertain so well and so predictably, whether with the blistering wrist shot, or that pounding piston.

If you are out there Wendel, thanks for making us happier for sixty minutes 3 times a week for all those years!!
