I think I would have to take the East -1.5 (+170) just because the PL value is so high with an o/u of 16.5 ... when that many goals are expected the puck line should cover more easily but they don't seem to have adjusted it too much... +170?

The only problem is that sometimes in close games I feel like they set the slightly better team as a slight underdog to lessen the payout of -1.5's... but I don't know if that applies to this because -145 is a pretty good fav

This is a game where there are many stars on either side. There's no way to cap this game. That's why if you just want to throw a unit on the game, you bet something like the PL.

Hell no ! Nothing applies here. Mainly because this is called the all-star game and means absolutely nothing hehe. Who knows which side is actually gonna show up.

Fair enough. Mind you...you're off by about 15 years in your guess

As for my capping style...I don't believe I have one. I've been doing this for fun for 10-15 years. To put it in numbers...I put 1-2 units on every bet. 25 units isn't even 1% of my yearly salary.

All that aside, perhaps I need to re-word my question. How can Vegas predict make the line so large for an exhibition game?

Well that just made no sense. That is to say...how can Vegas predict that one team in an exhibition game (with a pile of stars on either side) will be so much better than the other? This, especially when guys are out there to have a "grand-ol'-time" and no hitting is involved.

Why would anybody of sound mind lay juice on either of those teams ????

What makes Team A better than Team B or vice-versa ????

Why are people betting anyside ????

The line is set to make public comfortable with the wrong side.

I'm with you Weeble on this one. I'd go as far as to not even call this a hockey game. Whether you have the best capping style and are picking 65% winners this season, it won't change the fact that picking a winner for tomorrow's game comes close to flipping a coin.

And with that, I'm sticking to my guns and not betting. Inflated lines in an exhibition game...can't bet with them, can't bet against them.

Why are people betting a side? Great question. Should have asked myself that question before laying a bet on the Sophomores this evening. But, take that game as an example, rookies laying juice all day long even though most NHL cappers here would not hesitate to say that the Sophomores had the same, or more, talent on their roster. So, like you point out right now, why not try to outsmart Vegas by jumping on the dog as the line is set to make the public feel comfortable with backing the wrong side. Turns out Carey Price takes 15 out of the 18 minutes off and Rookies decide to play stellar defense.

No right or wrong sides for the game tomorrow as it's worse than an exhibition game.

My question is, why would anyone EVER lay any sort of juice in an All Star game, regardless of PLs, MLs, spreads or anything? One conference may indeed be loaded with more talent, but isn't that same talent more likely to disregard the game, especially if they fall behind by any sort of substantial margin? And doesn't the supposed inferior conference have some sort of temporary locker room bonding mularkey galvanizing their efforts for the day? Or is everyone overanalyzing a completely random game?
 
I love that Vegas deliberates on this stuff supposedly. The "public" logic tells me that the majority of casual folk who would bet on this game view think the East has the more high profile individual talent (regardless of Crosby's absence), playing in an East arena jacked on cheering on a squad loaded with local talent. On the other hand, are 17 Ole Ole Ole chants really gonna inspire a bunch of guys who will be disinterested and ready to split after the first period and a half?
