Well, here we are with a potentially fantastic NBA Finals capping off a great NBA playoffs. Let's get into this:
Point Guard Matchup:
Heat- Chalmers v. Thunder- Westbrook
Can't see how Chalmers wins this matchup. Westbrook is too fast and Chalmers is too inconsistent. Only if he plays out of his mind does he win this matchup. Edge to Thunder.
Shooting Guard Matchup:
Heat- Wade v. Thunder- Sefolosha
To me this is the key for both teams to win the series. If Wade is healthy and can play his game, Heat win the series. If he is not, Heat are in trouble. If Sefolosha plays the kind of defense he did in the Spurs series and can score like he did, Thunder win the series. Lot of ifs. I am banking on both to have good moments at times and good stretches but at the end of the day, this matchup will be a wash. Edge- Even.
Shooting Forward Matchup:
Heat- James v. Thunder- Durant
Wow, what a superstar matchup this is. MVP versus the scoring champ. We all know how good James is at defense, but Durant is no slouch. Offensively they can dominate the interior and exterior while getting out on transition and getting their teammates the ball. James has been sub-par from the charity stripe these playoffs. Edge- Thunder.
Power Forward Matchup:
Heat- Bosh v. Thunder- Ibaka
Is Bosh 100%? Can Ibaka repeat his offensive expolosions again? I'm predicting that both with offset each other and another position that will come out even. Edge- Even
Center Matchup:
Heat- Haslem v. Thunder- Perkins
Perkins has been a quiet role player and Haslem has been disappointing to say the least. Perkins defense helped slow down Duncan and experience give the Thunder the edge in this matchup. Edge- Thunder
Bench Matchup:
Batttier v. Harden. Harden is an incredible spark of the bench and could start on most NBA teams. Battier, though experienced, is a streaky shooter. Edge- Thunder.
Coaching Matchup:
Spoelstra v. Brooks
Lot of pressure on Spoelstra. He has made some good coaching moves in the playoffs. Question his late game coaching. Brooks made some great adjustments against the Spurs and won four straight. Edge- Thunder.
Intangibles Matchup
I think the Thunder hold a small edge for home court advantage. Heat are very good at home as well. As far as momentum and motivation and this is " their time "---no edge. Both Big Three's are ready to win and momentum is something that can change all to fast.
Final Recap and Prediction:
After looking at and breaking down the matchups, I think we are all in for a very closely contested NBA Finals. To me Wade is the key. James and Durant will wash each other out, as will Bosh and Ibaka. Westbook will dominate Chalmers, and the Thunder's bench will ouplay the Heat's bench. If Wade has his game going, Heat win in Five. If not, Thunder win in Six.
Prediction: Wade plays good, not great throughout the series, Thunder win in six games
