5 years 80 Million maximum contract extension!!!

 

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Russell Westbrook and the Thunder have agreed to a five-year, $80 million maximum contract extension.

Westbrook was headed to restricted free agency in the offseason if no deal was reached prior to the January 25 deadline, and the Thunder have rewarded him in a big way. Westbrook is averaging 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists for the team this season and is currently shooting a career-high 45.2 percent from the floor. Oklahoma City now has both Westbrook and Durant locked up long-term and will continue to be a strong force in the Western Conference for the foreseeable future.

Out of all the guys getting max pays out there, and all the really crappy players getting over 10 mil.. As much money westbrook is getting, its not that bad a contract..  there are a ton of awful contracts out there for guys way out of their prime, this contract will keep Westy in OKC for his prime for those 5 years...

To name a few guys getting monster contracts  alphabetically by team..

 

These are all averages:

Joe Johnson 20 mil a year til 2015/16!!!!!!!!!!!!!  worst contract in sports????..

Maggette 10 mil next 2 years lol.

Boozer around 15 million avg next 4 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deng 13 mil next 3 years (deng is a good player but 13 mil is stretching it)

Jamison 15 mil

Baron Davis 14 mil, 15 mil..

Ben Gordon  12 mil average for 3 years

David Lee Around 14 mil average till 2015/16 year  (david Lee is another guy that is a very good player but seems overpriced, he is even considered to be the 3rd best player on a GS team that SUCKS)

Kevin Martin 12 mil this year, 13 mil next year..

Granger, very good player but i think they gave him too much..  he will be gettting 12/ 13/ 14 mil

These arent necessarily bad contracts because these guys helped win the lakers two titles in the past 3 years but ill post them anyway:

Gasol almost 19 mil a year till 2013/14

Bynum 16 mil a year in 2012/13

 

Rudy Gay max contract? bad move by Grizz...

Gay will get 15 mil, 16 mil, 18 mil, 19 mil in 2015/16!!!!!!!!!!!!

This site didnt post Randolphs numbers but i know he is making a ton.  gasol is making a ton off that team too, around 14.5 mil till 2014/15...

 

Anyways so i only went through around 15 teams , ill stop there.. There are a ton of contracts that are questionable but sometimes you have to gamble...

Okafor is getting 12 mil, 13.5 mil, and 14.5 mil  in 2013/14...

i agree contracts like that seem crazy but in the world of the nba, its the norm...  He is entering his prime though and made All-Nba Team 2011 2nd team, that is a pretty amazing considering all the great players out there, and he is still super young...

So compared to all the other players in the league getting LOADS of cash, this contract for an A Level type superstar who hasnt even hit his peak is a no brainer..  OKC made the right move here.

This is the right deal for the Thunder. Westbrook is worth every dollar they are going to pay him

i agree, its a no brainer.. OKC had to do it. Westbrook is an A type superstar, those dont come around that often.  Just to name a few B star guys getting A star type contracts: Rudy Gay, Joe Johnson, Rashard Lewis, even Bynum hasnt proven to me he deserves his contract, he is always injured....

Westbrook is one of the few players in the league that DOES deserve a max contract. He can dominate on both ends of the floor (not even Durant can do that). Pay that man.

KLove will get the max now. Wish he would would just sign the 1 year offer though then become a free agent in a couple years then sign with my celtics!! that would be awesome..

Westbrook needs to learn to pass a little more tho.  He's too much a trigger happy pg imo.

Well at least basketball is restricted a bit , the amount soccer teams pay for players is a joke , that why more than half the teams are borderline bankrupt , I just read Barcelona is Trying to buy Brazilian Star Neymar for 300 million $ including endorsements , Now that is crazy , and that doesnt even include his salary which will be about 230 000$ a week

These big stars are $ for the teams though... With the shirts they sell and all the commercial bullshit clubs make profit out of them..

Just look at Ronaldo... Most expensive transfer in history and in a short period of time Real Madrid made up all the money they spent for him just by the sales of his shirt alone...

these are great investments but only few(real, barca, man city, etc) can afford to make them
