I got two on tap for today as well as some Sunday gambles. A quick word of advice. A lot of you seem to be jumping on my Raps today. Many of you are clearly aware of their prowess on Sunday afternoon games however I would be careful today. Their heart, hustle and soul is missing. Without Reggie Evans the Raptors are drastically different. Amir Johnson will do great starting but Reggie was the captain, the vocal leader and the 3rd best rebounder in the league. His absence will have a drastic impact on my squad. Ed Davis is conditioning himself in the D-League, until he returns, if Jay Triano wants to run a 4 man big rotation he will have to use Peja and Kleiza. I hope he uses Joey Dorsey as he has a very similar approach to the game of basketball as Reggie does. I wouldn't bet against the Raps due to their immense depth, but I would be cautious here with your love towards the afternoon assassins today. As always gents, no matter what you play, I wish you the best of luck. Peace - - - MAK
SAN ANTONIO SPURS + 2.0 (-110) - - - The two statistical leaders in the NBA do battle tonight in New Orleans as one flawless streak comes to an end. I suspect the road warriors to retain their perfect record after 48 minutes tonight. The Hornets should suffer their first home defeat at the hands of an exceptional ball club. Their first meeting was very early in the season. New Orleans did to San Antonio what they did to the rest of the NBA, they caught them by surprise. Teams overlooked the Hornets due to their struggles last season, they were not regarded as a top-tier team thus allowing them to catch teams by surprise with their excellent defense. Teams are no longer taking the Hornets for granted and the Spurs will be ready to exact sweet revenge tonight. Spurs coming off a very hard-fought loss to the Mavs. Nothing to be ashamed of at all, watching that game the Mavs executed to perfection. They made their shots down the stretch while the Spurs didn't. It was as simple as that, the Spurs realized they got beat by a team that was better and their post game comments confirmed that. They will be ready and playing at the top of their game after a home loss. Historically the Spurs are great at bouncing back after suffering a loss at home. The most dangerous Spurs team is a rested Spurs team and they will be poised and ready for this marquee western conference matchup tonight. Tony, Timmy and Manu are turning back time like Marty and Doc from Back to the Future. Manu is playing exceptional basketball and will expose Marco and Green tonight who will not be able to do anything to stop Manu. The one thing New Orleans desperately needs is a perimeter defender. They have no two-guards who can defend. Tony and Chris always battle with each other and after a sub par game Tony will be up for the challenge. Timmy is just the professional. He can still get low-block position better then any four-man in the NBA and I still regard him as one of the best power forwards to ever play the game. Blair will battle Okafor and RJ will outproduce Ariza offensively. The San An starting 5 matches up well with the impressive 5 man rotation of the Hornets. It is the bench that will be key to a Spurs road victory tonight. Gary Neal is an underrated rookie. Not a common rookie at the age of 26, he has experience and the confidence of Pop. George Hill is my first x-factor tonight. Coming off his best game of the season, look for Hill to use his size and quickness to lock down Green and expose Jack, Marco and Green when they are trying to guard him. McDyess is just another big man at Pop's disposal and what a vet to have pop off the bench. Splitter is starting to see more time and gain confidence. Yet another serviceable big. My main x-factor for tonight and the entire season is the Red Rocket Matt Bonner. This guy can change the makeup of a team like the Spurs. His range is amazing, an outstanding 3 point shooter who can body up and rebound the ball as well. With all the offensive firepower on the Spurs Bonner can be the forgotten man on defensive sets and gets plenty of wide open shots. Although he has struggled shooting in his last two, I suspect he bounces back in a big way tonight. He will constantly have Jason Smith guarding him at the 3 point line moving the big man away from the basket and potential rebounds. The San Antonio Spurs are flat out better then the Hornets. They will have a better record then them come season's end and due to their matchup advantages I think they win the season series vs this team. Revenge factor combined with a Spurs home loss as well as an opportunity to solidify themselves as the current top dog in the West should equal a Spurs victory.
