Just some food for thought: To start, I am not saying this is directly attributed to the outcome of games, but has anyone else noticed that when arrogant, big headed basketball players open their mouth to either talk shit or make a prediction of the game/series it always seems to backfire on them. Some examples, Paul Pierce in the conference finals predicting a sweep (didn't happen); Paul Gasol calling out Garnett before game two sayin he's old and lost a step (backfired), now Paul Pierce again was heard on the court during the final two minutes of game two that "we're not coming back to L.A." (well, after all he might be right...being Kobe could care less where he collects that finals MVP trophy, just as long as he has that and his 5th ring). Now again I'm not saying this trash talking is a direct cause to how the game/ series winds up, but there is some correlation between the two.
