#1 Posted: 3/6/2013 9:28:49 PM I posted this reply on another post and was asked to create a new thread and report thought the month.
I have been retired for 4 years and have come to Vegas for the opening round of march madness for the last 4 years. This year I had an opportunity to stay at a friends condo for the month while he and his wife are in Florida. With my wife's blessing I jumped at the chance.
I arrived on Saturday and am now in Goodyear Arizona for the week at the Indians/reds training camp. Will be back in Vegas on Saturday. Looking forward to conference tournaments next week. Will post again when I get back. |

#5 Posted: 3/11/2013 3:29:08 PM Got back to Las Vegas yesterday. I saw 3 ballgames at Goodyear Park where the two teams from Ohio train. There was actually a rainout one of the days. The ballpark is really nice although there is not a lot around it yet. The recession slowed down development.
I have a ticket to the Gonzaga/St.Mary game tonight at the Orleans Arena. May go over a few hours early and play some poker. They have a very nice poker room there.
My plays for today are Gonzaga -5.5 Iona -4 South Dakota St. -8

#7 Posted: 3/12/2013 2:45:12 PM 2-1 last night with lone loss being that Iona fiasco.
Took in the Gonzaga game last night. Zags will need to step it up in order to go deep in the NCAA.
Plays for today:
Long Island -3.5 Wyoming -3 S. Dakota St +1

#8 Posted: 3/12/2013 3:40:06 PM Spend any time at the Orleans other than for the game? I always enjoyed gambling there as the table minimums are usually respectable and I've never had an issue getting a seat. Food there is pretty decent as well

I played 1-2 No Limit Poker for a few hours before the game started. I usually stay at the Orleans when I come to Vegas. I really like their Poker Room and I agree with you on their table rates. Best place to eat is Big Al's Oyster Bar. Love the clam chowder and pasta dishes. |

#10 Posted: 3/13/2013 12:08:28 PM Went 3-0 last night and am off to an early start this morning. Looks like a long day at the sportsbook.
Early Picks
Providence +3 - this should be a close game.
Syracuse -13.5 - Will be rough for Pirates to play again this afternoon after playing last night. Cuse should roll.

#15 Posted: 3/14/2013 2:47:26 PM Next 2 Games
Houston +7 - These 2 split at home and I think 7 is too high here.
Ariz. St +5 - Ariz St took Bruins to OT on the road. Give them the edge today in a close game.

#20 Posted: 3/17/2013 10:02:41 PM 3-1 today and 14-8-1 during conference tourneys since arriving in town. Plan to take a few days off from basketball wagering and take in the sights of Vegas and play a little poker. Getting my charts ready so I can begin handicapping as soon as the tourney lines come out.
GL and let the Madness begin

What's your plan for places to watch the tourney? Tons of viewing parties and sportsbooks and bars that have special set ups. Any favorites or which are you checking out?

#22 Posted: 3/18/2013 10:37:44 AM Plan to watch the games at the LVH and the Orleans. Both open up their bigger convention rooms to March Madness parties for no cost. They have plenty of big screen TV's and betting stations. They offer good deals on food and drinks. Most have drawings for prizes also during the day.
I have been going to the one at the Orleans for the last 5 years and am taking in the one at LVH for the first time but have heard good things about it.
I tend to stay away from the strip casinos.

#23 Posted: 3/18/2013 11:19:31 AM I've been to the LVH twice for MM and once for a football weekend. Highly recommended. Only downside is the long betting lines, which makes half-time bets tough, but other than that, awesome set up.
FYI, the food in the theater is ok, but walk over to the Superbook Deli. Awesome subs, sandwiches and burgers for a fairly reasonable price for the quality.

#25 Posted: 3/19/2013 4:39:10 PM Took yesterday off from gambling and took a nice hike in Red Rock Canyon. Would highly recommend to all Vegas visitors since it is a nice break from typical Las Vegas.
Today's Picks
Liberty +3 - Tough to handicap this one. One is better on offense and the other on defense. Taking Liberty and the points. I like them better on the free throw line.
St. Mary -2.5 - Close one as well but give the edge to St. Mary's offense in this one.
Kentucky -3.5 - Look for the Cats to show some Big Blue PRIDE tonight and get the cover on the road.
GL and buckle up for a wild March Madness
