I posted a thread about this in the General Discussion forum but thought I would drop a line here about it. I won a seat in the WSOP $1k buy in tourney because I had the high hand for 24 hours at good ole Bill's Gambling Hall! Haha so it looks like I am going to play in the July 1st tournament...I am about to book a trip at the Gold Coast simply because it is walking distance to the Rio (where the WSOP is held). Trying to get Covers to throw me a hoodie or golf shirt or hat or anything to wear while I am playing but that hasn't gone very well so far....any of you guys gonna be playing in any events at the WSOP this year? Or any one gonna be in Vegas the week of July 1st? I am pretty sure I will be myself so I will be more than glad to meet up with a fellow Covers member for a beer or watch a baseball game.

That's cool AD.Can give you a couple tips about the GC,Best rooms are facing the Palms and on a higher floor..Worst are lower floors that overlook the back-employee entrances, dumpsters etc and pretty noisy. You may want to consider a $20 trick on check-in..

If you are a smoker or just want some fresh air, bring a pocket screwdriver set and you can open up the windows on the higher floors..For some reason they half-assed sealed them a few years ago..

The best bartenders work the vp bars in the back, tip and the beers will keep coming..Just watch out for the older woman who rotates breaks and is all about the company..no comps unless you;re playing max bet etc..she actually enjoys it when questioned about it..Play a few sportsbook bets and drink tickets are easy to get,use them at the center bar..

Gift shop is great for beers and snacks, very decent prices for a casino..Rooms have no fridge however,it's just a make your own with a bag and ice in the sink..sometimes you have to rough it

Fridays there is open 24 hrs,but best similar food is right off the Rio sportsbook..

My buddy and I go every year for opening week of NFL and every other year or so combine/use GC comps/Rio Comps so we can do 7-10 nights for just taxes internet fees etc..

Another thing,if you are into bowling,Never played there but the GC has the biggest center I have ever seen upstairs..Just incredible..

jamesxnj, thanks for the tips man! Those sound very useful. I will see what I can do at check in in terms of room location. Not a smoker but a little fresh air never hurt anyone. What exactly is a "VP" bar? Video poker?

I will definitely play a couple sports book bets and probably just chill there and watch them. I arrive in Vegas at like 10:30am on June 30th so I will hopefully get in a couple baseball bets.

at the bag and ice in the sink having to "rough it" thats awesome, but I am definitely NOT ABOVE that my friend

I am a casual bowler and semi decent...so I will definitely have to check it out. Even if I have to bowl by myself!!!  there's no shame in this game.

I do have a question for you though man. Is there a shuttle from the airport that runs to Gold Coast??? I know that these are ghetto and cheap but I don't mind waiting if its a free ride rather than have to throw down 20-25 bucks on a taxi (I will have plenty of time to kill).

Also, how would you rate the food at the Gold Coast? Will I be able to spend my entire trip there and at the Rio? Considering this trip is strictly business so to speak I really don't want to have to go to the strip if I can avoid it. I REALLY WANT to cash in this event lol, I don't know if thats a pipe dream but it doesn't sound too unrealistic to me.

Basically if I can spend my time at the Gold Coast and Rio for food, entertainment, and gambling, then I will be more than content...

One more thing, how is the pool at the Gold Coast?

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate your help buddy

Very nice magician1642...what did 175th pay if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah I had pocket Qs, flopped a set, and turned quad Qs...both hole cards had to play in order for the high hand to count. It was pretty sweet man. I am playing in event #54...

Hey AD,no the GC does not have a free airport shuttle. There are the pay shuttles,if you throw the driver a $5 he might stop in the Palms,Rio GC area first..If not you're stuck in traffic for 45 minutes..Keep an eye on people getting thier bags that they don't grab yours..another thing I don't like about them-you lose sight of your bag once you board..

Food is decent in the GC,there is a Friday's as I said and the Rio has options..There is always the food court in the Palms (Short walk across street) with pizza and McD's..

GC pool, well it has water in it...I've seen better at Holiday Inns..GC is mostly older clientele with some English tourists..def not the Vegas pool scene you're looking for..ha

But it's cool to place some bets there, hang around the Rio/Palms,you won't get bored..The bowling alley will amaze you..freaking huge..

 Glad the info may help.

Haha very nice. Yeah I read that the Gold Coast tends to attract a "older Asian crowd" considering I am a young white guy...should be fun regardless.

As for the pool, Im not too worried if there aren't half naked girl walking around, just a hole in the ground with some water in it will suffice, just looking for a place to kill a few hours if need be.

As for the shuttle situation.....how much is the pay shuttle to the Gold Coast? Or are are you telling me that I HAVE to take a taxi? Sorry for the nitpicky questions...

No prob man ..Last I took the shuttle was about 4 years ago,I'm guessing it's maybe $12 now? And didn't mean to warn you off taking it,just a head's up..Myself,I don't like losing track/sight of my bag if I can help it. I think it's called the ODC Shuttle or OTC,probably online w/prices..The shuttle counters are directly to the left off baggage claim.Once it fills up enough, you're off..They have pay in advance pick-up return service also..

I just take a taxi now, cause I am dying for a beer after 2 flights and 7 hours coming from FL through DFW or IAH...$ is no object

Hahaha yeah man I feel ya, thanks again for the heads up. I will probably just bite the bullet and pay for the cab. And I feel ya about not being able to see your bag...not cool.

Oh man I just moved to NC with my parents even though I lived in Texas my whole life...but the last time I went my brother and I flew from Greensboro to Charlotte, Charlotte to Phoenix, and finally Phoenix to Vegas....basically, it sucked behind  we flew US Air that time.

But when I go play in the WSOP I am flying on United and I am flying to Washington DC (Dulles) and then straight to Vegas from there so it should be a little bit better. But I have never been to the DC airport...

Also, about the shuttle, if its 12 bucks I might as well just take the cab...lol i hear the shuttles are awful but if it was free then I might have considered it but it sounds like thats out of the question

Man I grew up in Houston and IAH sucks major behind...for such a major airport it really needs some major renovating. Place is a pain in the behind. DFW on the other hand is 5 star and totally legit. But nonetheless, I feel ya about needing those beers once you finally get there! I will let ya know if I have anymore questions about Gold Coast or any other Vegas related things.

Again, appreciate it greatly. That beer offer still stands if you decide to head out July 1st...

I can't believe Covers doesn't want to sponsor a poster.  Who the heck is running this joint?

Good luck!

Hahaha a limo guy not usually my friend.

However, if I managed to cash anything significant, I might turn in to a limo guy for a while

I just did the shuttle thing last week for the first time, was only $7 to mid-strip locations instead of a $13 cab ride.

Take the shuttle from the airport to GC, it'll probably be $7 or $8. You don't have to pre-pay online, you can just go to the booth at the airport and pay for your pass there. It may take you a little while to get to your hotel on the shuttle, but if you're arriving a day before the event, it's not like you're going to be in a big hurry.

There are buses that go from GC to Bill's Gamblin' Hall because Bill's used to be Barbary Coast, so there is a free way to get to the Strip. Now, if you want to just rotate between GC and Rio, you can. Just make sure you get the Total Rewards card at Rio, and the B-Connected card at GC so you can earn comp credit for your play.

GC does cater to a more local crowd, but the food in the lounge there is decent. They usually run low table minimums at GC, like $5, which attract a lot of locals, although that may go up during the WSOP.
