Gaming was excellent ... Nice Sportsbook / Racebook is seperate but really nice .. Great variety of tables and machines .. Food .. Fair at Cornado Cafe... Prime Rib place was great and Miguels .. the Mexican food place was good .. Cocktail waitresses were hot as ever but when they changed shifts you would not see one for at least 20 - 30 minutes .. The Room .. Shower Spray sucked and so did the picture on the 42" plasma tv . I thought the area around the machines could have been a bit cleaner for a 4 star hotel . Location few miles south of airport and strip which imo was great .. Would I stay there again ??? Yes !! Liked the Sportsbook/Racebook and the variety of gaming available . The charge of an extra $10 a night for a mountain view should have been waived due to amount of nights that we stayed their..6 nights .. The Price is decent but this is just not quite a 4 star hotel ..IMO .. just a notch below ..

Upside........With the exception of Michael's (the upscale restaurant named after the owner) The South Point is a "local's casino" that only does major business when the cowboys are in town for a rodeo. It is very middle-class in amenities and service, as well as comfort.

I'm not quite certain where you read that it was a "4-star property" and, seriously, I am not certain what "stars" mean...other than Michelin stars. Too many publications and websites appropriate the term "stars" and have no idea what quality levels contribute to a 4-star rating.

Other than the top restaurant and the fact that the race and sports books are physically separated, I would not rate this hotel/casino higher than IP or the Hard Rock....which, if I were giving "stars" would rate 2.

PS>>>>And I have spent many happy nights drinking/eating/gambling at The South Point.....there are hotels/casinos in this town at all levels and that can be enjoyed at all levels.

I hope that you did have a good time and will come back again...and often. Our town relies on people like yourself to keep us going.

My concern was not with your posting; but with the information that you used to make your decision as to where to stay and spend your hard-earned money. Next time, come mid-week and look for a good deal on the Strip

Hotwire is a website that makes money filling rooms with uninformed tourists........sad.

There are so many places on the Internet....here, for instance....where you can get tons of information that give you an opportunity to make a much more well-informed decision....To use a website that makes money if you believe them would be a poor choice.

PSS>>>I do love that after-midnight menu choices at the Coronado Cafe......great after a night of drinking on the Strip.

Appreciate the feedback bro !! The strip takes your money a bit quicker than casino's off the strip . agreed ?? I was just added my 2 cents to my stay and just want to let people know how a non-local looks at the Casino . I'm sure you are correct about everything you've said , but I would give it more than 2 stars my friend . I can't remember where I seen 4 stras but it may have been hotels.com ??

Upside.........The Strip, actually, provides far greater value than off-Strip hotels....the competiveness from Mandalay Bay up to The Wynn gives visitors a great "bang for their buck".....Two for one shows, outrageous buffets are just two examples.

Locals get great deals off the Strip....The Rio, Palms, Stations, etc....but the Strip hotels need the tourists to eat and drink, not just gamble, to make their $$$$....so they compete with deals that make your $$$$ go much farther...AND, with higher quality.

I was just talkin about gambling wise .. Odds are better off the strip and downtown as far as the slots ... Solid advice regarding the deals .. I will remember that the next time we go which is in 2-3 years .. Thx again

I dig the South Point...watch the super bowl there every year...nice and clean casino and wide aisles make it feel a lot less cramped than most other casinos.

I am unsure of how the stars are doled out exactly but there is no doubt the Southpoint by all the rating systems is a 4 star place.
1*- Budget Motel 6
2*- economy Howard Johnson
3*- average Most Holiday Inns, Hooters etc
4*- Upscale- TI, Mirage, South Point
5*- Exclusive- Wynn Palazzo Trump (lol)

From the room pictures, South point at 4 stars is a reach, looks closer to two-maybe low 3

AAA.com has a 3 Star rating for the South Point. Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, and Hotwire give the South Point a 4 Star rating.

If South Point is a 3 or 4-star (whatever the hell that means), then The Wynn and The Bellagio are 10-star hotels....

Seriously, people....the ONLY company that legitimately issues "stars" is Michelin....for restaurants and hotels. Anything else is BS that can be bought for a price....especially websites.

PLease do not believe everything that you see/read on a company's website...question the motives before you spend your hard-earned money.

And, once again...I enjoy the South Point for a number of things...but quality is not one of them.

Poker room at the south point was great.  They have pots for each of the high hands such as 8-8-8-8-X, 6-6-6-X, straight flushes and bad beat jackpots.  I sat in the poker room for two hours and had plenty of drinks as the cocktail waitresses came often.

I have heard this. Happy to hear you liked it. I got a decent enough rate at Aria and will be staying there for the bowl. Hope they have some kind of party, may have to trek to S P after all.

Little FYI VG. I used Betterbidding to find out what was what on Hotwire. I knew what I was buying would be the Trop for 60 bucks a night. Thurs-Monday. If I went on Trop's site it was 119 a night and the other travel sites had it about the same.

Crash....You will need some connections (host) if you want special treatment at Aria...they are MUCH MORE concerned about what you do in the casino than what you do in the book.

tampa....my point was not about "value" it was about hype....If you do your research BEFORE going on one of those websites, you will have a better idea as to what level of quality you are looking for and will receive....these sites sell rooms at greatly reduced rates and are excellent for access to those rates...just don't believe the hype about "stars" or whatever.....

...And just to reiterate...I am a big fan of the South Point...just made bets there today, btw....

South Point is more for the local trash from south lvb and the crummier part of henderson.

The book is nothing short of buffoons on both sides of the counter and are not worthy of my action and for me its not worth the ride there anyway.

better bidding is cheese, this guy is doing a great service.

There was a day that I stood a small chance of getting a free breakfast at Aria, those days are gone. When I speak of rate, I am talking I got it on Priceline at $125/night.
For Super Bowl weekend no too bad.

Crash

Can't wait for Superbowl weekend. Did you go to the Cover's party last Superbowl?  I've got comp rooms at Harrah's this year. Not like the Aria, but the price is right.
