#8 Posted: 1/12/2011 11:52:42 AM Haven't used it since my first trip to LV a few years ago, but I researched it then, and generally the $20 trick always seems to work a little better at night. Hotels are hesitant to give away the nice rooms early in the day, but later on, if they're not going to be filled anyway, it's not such a big deal. |

basically, say you have a standard room....you go to check in at your hotel...person at the counter asks for your ID and credit card..you sandwich a 20 dollar bill between the 2 and hand it to her while asking "if there is any complimentary upgrades" if the hotel person can do it, she will keep the 20, and usually upgrade you to a suite, or a better view or something.. small price to pay for an upgrade. In my experiences if they are unable to upgrade you they will return the 20 |

#14 Posted: 1/13/2011 3:43:05 PM 100 might play well, but say it only gets us a better view not better room, not really worth it . the 20$ at TI was deffinately worth 100, but i think things may have changed as far as the 20$ trick goes . last time down i didnt try it because the hotel we stayed at just has the one room, only thing diff is the view. well ill be trying it in a few days, i will keep you posted. might just go 50, peace

If you're going to float someone $100 then it better be someone who has the authority to make the changes you're looking for AND accepts gratuities.
Middle to upper management COULD pretty much get you anything you asked them for... but most of them would be more concerned w/ your level of play than in getting a grat.
Front desk employees have a smaller window of changes they could offer you... they tend to take care of the people who take care of them.
Mostly, like everything else in Vegas, what you get is based on luck. LOT's of properties over book. If you happen to show up AND your reserved room is available THEN you'll get your room.

#19 Posted: 1/15/2011 4:38:11 PM vegas gourmet is a spending snob.
he believes the word "budget" is similiar to satan.
Im pretty fuckin well off and I still ask how much garbage cost. If I was fuckin Bill Gates I would still girl about prices. Principle and Common Sense are why I have more than I should -- not throwing caution to the wind and saying darn it.

"Over book" was probably the wrong term... What I meant was, properties will take your reservation but they won't block off your room. If a property has ten, non-smoking rooms w/ king size beds... they'll take more than ten reservations.

I prefer to arrange a folded $20 bill and place it next to my wallet on the counter, more discreet and less embarrassing if a deal can't be reached. |

#22 Posted: 1/18/2011 3:23:26 PM I have never tried this to get a room upgrade as I am a LV local however I do it all the time to cruise the VIP at major buffets. I gladly fork over 25 bucks to skip the 2 hour wait for the M seafood buffet and I have never had a problem.. |

Not quite certain what the issue is here, Kelly........and I do not believe that I need to justify my thoughts...however....
I believe that value and quality are the two concepts needed for any decision in spending...whether it's a meal, a car, or a hooker.
You can research my posts and you'll find comments about both ends of the spectrum of spending...because, IMHO, that is the beauty of Vegas. The ability to experience both ends of the spending spectrum and find a quality that is difficult, if not impossible, to find in any other hi-profile vacation venue. |
