Too early to start talking some Daniel Cormier?

Question

In just less than 2 weeks, will have a new HW grand prix champion. His name is Daniel Cormier. I love the young vs the old, out with the old/in with the new scenario. Here it is again in the form of a 2-time Olympian wrestler taking on the seasoned "pro" wrestler. I love Josh Barnett and respect what he has done throughout his career. He is in a rough spot here against Daniel Cormier, though. As it stands right now DC sits at +105.

I like Barnett(-130) in this spot. Not really old vs. young, as Barnett is 34, Cormier is 33. Barnett has a well rounded skill set and a ton of experience, but most important of all, I don't think he's on his way down. He has a 4" height advantage to keep Cormier at a distance and also has wrestling skills to avoid takedowns. His last loss was in 2006 vs Nogueira & Crocop. IMO, he may be the best heavyweight, including UFC fighters.

They may be similar in age but Barnett has a whole lot more mileage on him.  He has almost 40 MMA fights while Cormier has 9.  I think this is a very even matchup as the odds show.  I do like Cormier here but not by much.  May just stay away from this one...GL

Is the grand prix final happening already?... I knew it would be a long time to complete this when they set this up.

I like cormier. especially with the bombs that he knocked Bigfoot silly with. Barnett keeps joking about how he will take down the olympic wrestler... but come on! that's not going to happen.

totally agree with Cappa... Barnett has not been getting KO'd easy, but his 32 is like a Wandelei or Nog early 30s. They've taken a lot of shots for a lot of years.

I have Joshy @ &#x2B;250 to win the GP from the beginning. Josh is a very bright fighter and I can&#x27;t see him allowing the kid to have his way with him on the ground.  Only way I see Josh losing is if he gets caught.Barnett or no play fellas

I don&#x27;t see the number of fights that Barnett&#x27;s had as "mileage", I see it as experience. He hasn&#x27;t absorbed the beating that Big Nog or Vanderlei has had. Big Nog took a pretty good pounding from his fights with Fedor. Vanderlei got a good beat down from the second Crocop fight and was never the same. Kharitonov showed pretty impressive punching power against Arlovski but was soundly beaten by Barnett.

Barnett is def no where near Wand or Nog as far as damage goes. He has been hit many more times than Cormier and he's been knocked out a couple times though. Plus he's at that age and had enough fights where he could downslide at any time. Not saying any of this will matter but Cormier is def the younger/fresher fighter. Obviously Barnett has the experience advantage having 30+ more fights.
I'm not sure exactly what to expect from Cormier either. Haven't seen enough of him to gauge exactly how good he is yet. All I know for sure is he looked damn good vs Bigfoot and not so great vs Monson. I think I'm starting to lean towards Barnett slightly but this is pretty much a coin flip with upside vs experience.

&#xD;&#xA;barnett has more experience within the cage and ring but not more on the mat or with competition in general.&#xD;&#xA;cormier has faced guys with barnetts wrestling ability on many occasions.

On paper I like Corimer. And I have liked him for a while.

But with the extended time out due to injury. And just the fact that Barnett is so experienced and crafty has me iffy on this whole fight now.

Barnett really is a wild card. He has a nice streak going..but for a while it was vs. no one. And even in SF he beat Sergei and Rogers. Not exactly top 10 guys. But he has done what he has had to. Hard to tell exactly where he is at this point in his career.

I want to see both in the UFC reguardless of what happens.

I like your pick 7MR but Barnett wants to see the mat either way esp. since he will get smoked in a perlonged standup. Cormier, great am. wrestler and all is the one not wanting to roll around with this bigger stronger more ex. MMA wrestler who makes his living down there and is probably the best pure MMA wrestling talent out there, because of the total control he has you in on the ground, mainly because the great position he has when he 1st takes you down in half guard or side control imed. and slowly moves up for the kill, like a smothering anaconda, assuming total control the whole way.Cormier wanted little to do with an even hurt Bigfoot on the mat and Barnett is even scarier in his workplace. I think this a classic case of who can impose their will first and i see Barnett getting Cormier to the ground and subbing him, easier and before Cormier can KO Barnett.
