I know its a month away, but anyone think Alves at -135 is a steal? I was expecting at least -200 for Alves. Alves is the more powerful of the two and has faced the better competition even though Kampmann's win versus Condit does look better after last night. Alves has only had difficulty versus wrestlers (GSP, Fitch, Story) and tends to do extremely well versus strikers. Alves has been better conditioned for fights since teaming up with Mike Dolce especially considering he doesn't have as much trouble cutting weight anymore. He even showed a little versatility versus John Howard by taking him to the ground. Alves has a good chin, which probably doesn't matter much since Kampmann isn't that powerful of a puncher. I see Alves winning every aspect of this fight. Any thoughts?

Don't always look at past competition cause a lot of the time that stuffcan be highly overated.. I see many times the guy that fought the better competition lose.. It's something to consider but I try to not give it too much weight..

I completely agree. That being said... I still think Alves is a level above Kampmann.

The over would be the better bet in this fight. Kampmann is extremely durable, so even if you think Alves wins I doubt he finishes.
I see it going to a decision as well. Alves is durable too and earlier in 2009 he went on a streak where he was finishing opponents. But, he doesn't go for the finish as often even though he just did so with Papi. Kampmann doesn't have the power to finish Alves.

I like Kampman as the dog here. He's easily more well rounded and may even be able to outstrike him standing using his quickness. Great matchup that just feels a couple years late (i believe these 2 were the top contenders until Daley upset Kampman a while back).

I took Alves when he opened at -110. Kampmann has had trouble with big strikers ie. Marquardt and Daley.
To be fair the Daley stoppage was premature, though the Marquardt one was pretty legit. Both fights illustrate what I said about Kampmann's durability though. Even after eating a head kick from Marquardt and multiple shots in quick succession afterwards, Kampmann was never fully out.

Yeah but bottom line he was still getting lit up by Daley.
I'm having a tough time myself picking a side in this one, Kampmann has the speed advantage and I can see him landing the sharper strikes throughout the fight, but Alves is a badass and hits hard, and is getting a favourable matchup in a fellow striker. Kinda leaning Kampmann

No doubt he was getting lit up by Daley but Kampmann has a bad habit of doing what a lot of fighters with good chins do, which is getting into brawls, even if their styles don't suit it. I'm not trying to say he wasn't losing the fight at that point because he definitely was, I just think he could have came back.
As for this matchup my first lean is Kampmann. I have been burned lately though by thinking that the fighters I pick will engage in a "smart" fight. Now I just assume the worst case scenario, thus this match really is a pick em for me. Kampmann has the advantage everywhere but on the feet and even there the fight should be a lot closer than what people who are not familiar with Kampmann would expect. I seriously want to pick him, especially since he's a dog but I don't know if I'm letting my personal bias (I really like Kampmann alot) affect my decision making skills.
