shows the ignorance and gang mentality of NFL sports writers scouts and so called experts .To think that Matt Ryan will have an impact as a player in the NFL is a joke .

I really beleive they are putting the name Matt and Boston college togeather with Matt hasslebeck from Boston college which is a joke .as we see from the past on the out comes of past drafts  how wrong and what duds go in the first rounds from these so called experts this will be a classic to look back on a few years latter

The truth of the mater Tim hasslebeck was a better QB at Boston College than Matt Ryan was so was Glenn foley for that mater .......When it over Ryans NFL career will be similar to or worst because as a high round pick he will see more action and be exposed as a big bust .

I am from Boston and watch all Boston college games . But im always suprised at how these so called experts are so wrong

it will be interesting to see if he drops like Brady Quinn did last year

You just better hope your team dont take him in first round ..........LOL

I actually really like Matt Ryan. He's got great footwork, and always keeps his eyes downfield (very important to make sure you don't miss open targets when you're scrambling). He's a pocket passer, but has enough athleticism and quickness to buy time in the pocket or scramble for first downs. He also has the arm strentgh to make tough throws on the run. I've seen him throw some absolutely beautiful touch passes also, he just needs to be more consistent and turn the ball over less. Ryan is better than people give him credit for and has the ability to be a franchise QB for whoever takes him (for his sake I hope it's the Ravens).

He'll be drafted by either the Jets or Ravens most likely, unless someone trades up for him.

sorry but i really disagree ......your first point on footwork .....the mans a clod on his feet ..........he has no pocket presence .....and his decision making is horrible .....did you only watch his highlights against army ?  You must have missed the games against florida state or Virginia tech ........you must consider the competition he has been up against .....  not many great athletics  on the defense side ........his arm is nothing special many terrible balls ive seen this guy throw up for grabs........He no chance in the NFL not even an average QB ......there are guys sitting on the bench in the NFL  that will never play that are beter than Matt Ryan will ever be . Ive been watching football for over 40 yrs and pretty good at evaluating talent especially at QB position this ones to easy .......Ryans a complete bust    trust me on this ....

Ive been watching football for over 40 yrs and pretty good at evaluating talent especially at QB position this ones to easy .......Ryans a complete bust    trust me on this ....

I agree with you.   Matt Ryan will be a bust in the NFL.

As a Falcon fan, I'm just too ambivalent on him. I think back on his game-winning drive against VaTech. He was so poised and that TD pass was Montanaesque. You have to understand that BC's skill players are nothing to write home about, so imagine what he can do with NFL caliber talent around him. Plus from what I gather, he has all the leadership intangibles and we should know that supersedes arm strength (Hello, Jeff George and Billy Joe Overthrow). But I have a visceral hesitation about him.

But still, I almost think the Falcons have to take him because I just don't have confidence in other late first and second round QBs. Chad Henne, Brian Brohm, Joe Flacco (though I don't know much about him). As for Glenn Dorsey, he's great, but ESPN put out an interesting stat that highly-drafted DTs have little impact on their teams. You can find plenty of lane cloggers in later rounds of the draft.

If the Rams take Dorsey, and it comes down to Ryan or Chris Long I might take Chris Long. The Falcons have the oft-injured John Abraham and apparent 1st round bust from last year, Jamaal Anderson, so they'll need the DE help.

The virginia tech game Ryan sucked so bad the first 55 minutes of the game he was the reason they were behind  he was 25/52   2 td  2 int   both  Henne and Brohn are better than Ryan  ........in two or three years the team that takes him will look back at this draft and want to puke

One of the guys on ESPN compared him to Big Ben and Rivers as being able to have an immediate impact.  I don't see it happening...

Brian Brohm is the perfect fit for the Falcons or anyone else he is the best QB in the draft. He was raised in a family of QB's he is the next Peyton Manning. Was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a High school player enough said.

Steve Young of ESPN says Matt Ryan is the only decent quarterback not only in this years draft  but next year too.

From all accounts, Matt Ryan is the type of person who can rally his teammates around him and not in a cloying way. Leadership is arguably more important than arm strength and agility. I'm just going to mark down the list of QBs who are and aren't quintessential leaders:

Rex Grossman - NO. I get the impression his teammates can't stand him.
Brett Favre - Of course. Aaron Rodgers? Don't know, but lean no.
Jon Kitna - Yes.
Tavaris Jackson - Don't know. Gus Frerotte - Yes
Matt Hasselbeck - Yes
Matt Leinart - No. More into the lifestyle. Won't amount to much.
Alex Smith - Maybe. Really missed Norv Turner.
Mark Bulger - I used to think so, but it appears his teammates quit on him.
Jason Campbell - I don't know enough yet. There seems to be an aloofness to him.
Donovan McNabb - Yes, though I think his teammates would've respected him more if he was more forceful in standing up to TO
Tony Romo - Yes
Eli Manning - I know he won a Super Bowl, but there seems to be a brattiness about him that could easily alienate teammates.
Jake Delhomme - Used to. But I think he has worn out his welcome in Carolina.
Jeff Garcia - Yes.
Drew Brees - Yes.
Michael Vick - Again remind you that I'm a Falcons fan. Good riddance. He thought he was above everyone else, never cared for bonding with his teammates, often quit on this team and never appeared to give full effort, that is, after he signed his megadeal after 2004 season.

Quickly AFC
David Garrard - Yes
Vince Young - No
Peyton Manning -  Of course
Matt Schaub - Yes
JaMarcus Russell - No, will ultimately be a bust due to lack of work ethic
Philip Rivers - No. Major prick whose attitude will wear thin.
Brody Croyle - No.
Jay Cutler - Hmmm, jury is still out.
Chad Pennington - Yes, but noodle arm is getting more and more limpid.
John Beck - Um, huh? Don't know yet. If he wears his magic underwear maybe he will.
Tom Brady - Duh.
Trent Edwards - Hell, shitload more that JP Losman and that ain't saying much.
Ben Roethlisberger - Use to think so, but it appears he's steadily evolving into an ass.
Derek Anderson - Yes. Brady Quinn comes across as an arrogant dick and probably won't amount to much wherever he lands
Carson Palmer - Hmmmm, part of me thinks so, but part of me doesn't. Maybe things will change without the specter of Ocho Cinco.
Kyle Boller - No. I think Troy Smith does and should challenge for starting job in Baltimore

Until he sees and feels the speed of the game no one will know.  As most fans know we need to rebuild the offensive line, hence extending Redman's contract and re-signing Harrington.  He will ride the bench next year while we suit up Redman and Harrington for the ass kicking.   I do not see another Ryan Leaf but we needed a quarterback and IMO, he was the best available.

You're right, he is only a hall of fame QB with the superbowl ring. What does he know about football or quarterbacks. You tell him, i am sure that ESPN should have called you instead to state your expert opinion

I personally think that Matt Ryan will develop into a solid NFL QB and barring injury will play in the league for a long time.

Lemonsky...How can you say that Vince Young is not a leader?

Wow.

jay10, nice dig up of this thread.

Makes a lot of people wanna hide, that's for sure.

Then again, I thought Matt Ryan would be eaten alive as well.

See what playing the Lions in your first career start does for you???

Well, that and a solid running game.

Probably not one of my better predictions.

And I'm sure none of you guys were ever wrong about something.       Hypocrites.

My apologies to Steve Young.        Ironically,  I used a quote from Steve Young to help defend Mark Sanchez in another recent thread.    After calling Young a dumb fucker in here.

I don't think Sanchez is going to be a bust for what it's worth which is very little.

My apologies to Steve Young.        Ironically,  I used a quote from Steve Young to help defend Mark Sanchez in another recent thread.    After calling Young a dumb fucker in here.

I don't think Sanchez is going to be a bust for what it's worth which is very little.

Atleast you guys have the  to admit to a mistaken prediction.  Most guys on here wouldn't own up to a fart let alone a bad prediction.  I didn't think Matt Ryan would have an impact like he did but never really thought he'd be a bust.

I've definitely been wrong before and perhaps its worth another shot:

Stafford will be a Bust   Poor Lions!

Jeremy Maclin will have a shot at Rookie of the Year  McNabb is licking his chops with weapons like Desean Jackson, Brian Westbrook and Jeremy Maclin.
