I've known about sports betting ever since I was in junior high school helping my mother fill out her weekly office pool sheet during football season. I'd pick out the teams that I thought would win on Sundays. From what I recall I don't think we ever won anything. There was a lady whose picks were based on what teams had the most colorful uniforms. Oddly enough, she won a few times. I didn't care about winning though. All that mattered was spending time with my mom and having something to talk about together.

In my freshmen year of college, my roommate introduced me to online sports betting. He and I both had online accounts at the Grand Prix Sportsbook. This was back in 1999 and I don't remember much except for betting on the Steelers and losing on Monday Night Football. Afterwards, my roommate swore off sports betting forever. Funny thing is I never cared about the money and I just continued to do it. I remember watching and betting on the NCAA tournament later that year in college.

In late 2001, I started betting totals. I remember on the first or second night of the NBA season I bet like 9 unders and won 8 of them. I was hooked man.

In 2003, I joined Covers and I remember laying a lot of chalk on the Yankees to win the World Series only to have Josh Beckett and the Marlins eat my bankroll up. I think it was around that time I first swore off sports gambling. haha.

In 2006, I got my first bonus check from work which I subsequently blew on the Pittsburgh Panthers in March Madness. It was my largest wager at $700. I swore off sports gambling again. hahah

Now in 2007, I'm wiser than ever and a lot more disciplined with my money. I think I have what it takes to succeed in sports betting. I've been doing it for over a decade and I can only count on one hand the number of times I swore off gambling. Most people never make it this far, and those who have have probably gotten themselves in a lot of financial trouble. I totally believe in myself and I wish to turn pro within a couple of years.

After a few years of playing fantasy sports and making money of that, I created an account at sportsbook.com to bet Twins to win World Series 15-1. Santana and Liriano were unstoppable man.

i've liked sports a long time, jus like any other person on this forum, to me it's more excitement, when something is on the line, i mean sure when you lose it sucks, but nothing feels better than winning!?

It all started for me as a young boy, of about 11 or 12.  I hadn't even discovered my penis at the time, but already knew the joys of gambling.  My grandpa was a mailman, and used to get these parlay football cards on his route, and I would put $1 or $2 on a parlay for the weekend, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Back in the days when the Lakers used to play in the Forum in Inglewood, a ref by the name of Tim Donaghy approached me...

won a college basketball pool as a junior in high school... won about $200...  my first big win...

after that I started betting with friends for fun... like $5 a game on NBA or MLB...

I have won two more NCAA pools in my life and the last one I did not get paid...  Interestingly getting cheated out of about $300 something made me want to gamble more... (wanted to win my money I was cheated out of)... sounds crazy but people with real gambling minds understand...

Got into spread betting with football, but really got heavy one year into basketball because of the daily action... did great at the beginning of the season with $50 bets, felt like easy money... then got killed at the end of the season with $150 bets... great learning less tho...

Found the teaser angle in NFL and have been doing that for over a decade... probably the best lessons I have learned is to play with less emotion and more patience...

My best friend in high school had a brother who new a guy who took bets. I was always good at remembering stats and being able to pick straight up winners for pools and stuff, just seemed like an easy way to make money.  It really was EASY that first year, but havent had a year since than be that easy.

First started at the track when I was about 14 and had a job as a hot walker back about 78. My brother and I had like $12 between us and went on a roll at season end for 4 grand. Back in 78,         4 grand was alot especially when you where only 14.  today no big bets just play for the fun and handicapping; having a few bucks on the game make it a little more interesting.

Started 4 years ago on BetonSports.com. My buddy then introduced me to a local guy who gives me a weekly balance of 3K to bet with. No longer needed a credit card... www.machobet.com

THE Key to winning in sports gambling= dont bet on basketball, hockey, or baseball. ONLY FOOTBALL. I learned my lesson last year.

I loved sports forever, then I met my man Irish who bet on football...I used to send him like $20 a week and say do your worst, then I realized I could cap games as well if not better, so we got into it together...and as it turns out, this looks to be my first losing season since the first, but it aint over yet, and I've never even come close to going broke because of my gambling...

Because I hate Mr Daniel Snyder.

When he fired Marty and hired Steve Spurrier back in 2002, I figured that it would be a HUGE bust right off the bat....it was.

I needed some money that fall and bet 500 bucks on Philly when they played Snyder's team on Monday Night Football.....I won and was off and running.

I'm not that great a gambler......but let me tell you.......I made probably very close to 10 grand fading Mr Snyder's team when Spurrier was there.

There was nothing better than making money cause that a55hole Snyder was losing football games.........

damn the way i started i guess is a little messed up.   my grew up with my grandparents.  my grandma was the heavy gambler.  if memory serves me well,  i was handed parlay sheets to me at the age of about 5 or 6.  i remember loving football season cause thats the only time they would bet.  my first win was a 5 team parlay.  i know i had iowa, ohio st, michigan and i cant remember the other 2 teams.  the very next week i picked the same 5 teams.  i remember my grandma saying all 5  teams will not win 2 weeks in a row,  needless to say she was right.   anyway,  fast forward to the present,  i love to bet football,  some basketball,  and play a crap load of poker.  gee thanks grandma

Broncos pats game..maybe 3 years ago.  Pats were favored by 7, in Denver.

I kept talkin so much garbage how the Broncos, with Jake plummer, Champ in his prime..John Lynch.  When the D was sick..How they were going to Dominate.

First bet i ever made was on that game.  Told me to put my money where my mouth was.

Called the Bookie

Won a hundred bucks..Denver won 17-7 I think it was.
