So there is your "main reason" that Pit is not coming in the day before and staying in a hotel the night before the game. As pointed out by others already, they get to sleep in their own beds Sat Nt after a regular week of practice preceding a road game. IMO, that short flight getting to the game on Sunday is a non-factor.
You counter that the "routine" is broken.
What about the routine of practice the whole week for the Giants? Apparently, with the power outages, flooding...this week of practice was anything but routine for the Giants. Giants players without power, moving to other digs while the cleanup and recovery takes place. This was anything but a normal, routine week of practice for the Giants players.
So there goes that argument of yours up in smoke.
When I made my remark in post #2, I was reacting to your "main reason", a non-factor as mentioned or at the least, a cancelling factor because both team's routines are disrupted, the Giants even more so than the Steelers.
However, there is another huge factor very few of us considered, including myself, which had you said was the Main Reason, I would have considered as actually quite perceptive and credible.
Apparently, the entire of city of NY is looking to the Giants to help them out and forget about their collective troubles, even if but for a few hours. The team has taken it upon themselves to accept this responsibility and they want to win one for the City. It's a variant of the old "win one for the Gipper" angle, this time the Gipper being the city of NY, er...make that the whole state of NY or even the entire devastated region.
Although I doubt the Giants will be as prepared as they would had been had Sandy not happened, they will be doubly motivated to put out their very best effort. They are not playing for themselves anymore, but for the whole besieged area.
If this was a "normal" week, I would definitely feel confident about my Pit pick, as they need the game much more.
Now, with this circus and the complexity of all that is going on around the game, I'm starting to have doubts. Too many angles to consider.
I do think that once the game is underway, players will settle in and focus on the game itself, and that it will become more normal as the game wears on.
No matter what, it will be a good diversion for the people of New York, and these are two tough teams battling in what I think should be a great contest. I will definitely plan on tuning in.
BOL on your pick
