Someone slap Reevis's head off.

The owners created this monster, they could say no. If I could get more money tomorrow at my job I would, I am sure you would to.

 The other reason they go for it is because an injury could finish their career and they wouldn't have got paid for the best part of their career.

The owners and players don't deal with the issues that we do as workers, this is an entertainment industry.

There was a particular quote by Revis that struck me as bizarre... 

"As of right now, it doesn't look good," said Revis, who has three years, $21 million left on his deal. "To me, it's like an insult. You're sending me [proposals] without guaranteed money in the contract. That's not good."

1)  As a Jet fan, I say let the guy sit, fuck him.  7 million per season for the next 3 years and he claims he's being insulted!  It wasn't an insult when he signed on the dotted line.  Let him try and get real work and we'll see how fast he comes to play.

2)  He wants guarantees.  What does he guarantee Jet fans and ownership? percentage?  These athletes mentailities are so backwards, instead of being greatful for 7 million dollars per season he's insulted. 

If the economy ever does really collapse these athletes salaries will fall faster then Bear Stearns and they'll be forced to get real jobs, like back in the day when a ball player would work in the off season or serve his country in time of war.  It's agregious.

As for the last post....for some reason people continue to spend tons of money on entertainment, so there is little recession for them because we pay for them...I rarely go to movies or to a live sport unless I get free tickets so I am only a contibuter to the entertainment salaries through directv.

I have no interest in giving money to grossly overpaid actors and Media guys...Costas, Gumble, previously madden and many more..at least the athletes are putting their bodies on the line but I doubt I am paying for those tickets either.

I dont understand why people think these football contracts are worth honoring. The owners sure dont honor them so why should the players have too. Its how football is set up, if you under play your contract the team can cut your ass and not give you anything, if you out play your contract then you hold out for a bigger deal. Dont get mad at the player for this, get mad at the NFL for having this sysyem.

I think you miss the mark here, Revis is eligible to earn 21 million  for the next 3 years.  It's about time an owner puts these players in their place and puts him in a situation of not earning a pay check for the next 3 years.  Then let him go out and negotiate any deal he wants after his value has been reduced to nothing.

I would be a very happy Jet fan to see the Jets to take the position of letting Revis sit and then draft another corner next year.  Sure Revis is great but we see how fickle these players are, Jets would be foolish to give a corner 15 million per, as Revis is asking for.  The NFL is all about drafting young talent and paying them low for their prime years and then making the right decision on which players to pay and how much.  But he is replaceable.  IF the Eagles can cut ties with McNabb, Jets can do so with Revis... trade him for picks... anyhting but waste 15 mil in cap room on him.     

It's the owners....the owners...the owners created this...the player is just trying to get a new contract because the OWNERS allow it....

I think your missing the mark here, its not about how much hes making now, its about what the top players at his potion are making. Thats the buisness. The NFL,players association, and the owners, has allowed this to be the way "the buisness" works for years now. Everyone tries to campare this way of doing buissness with other sports or says," Hes making 21 million over the next 3 years he should just be happy with that", and the truth is if players didnt do this it wouldnt create the money for other less valuable players at that same position that it does, and therefore taking some of the money (thats rightfully theres) away from the owners bottom line. Anyway I can go on and on with this but the fact is the NFL contract aint worth shit, and there is very rarely a time in these situations I side with the team anymore.

You have a point and I agree that the sytem is structurally flawed which creates these annual hold outs.  But to me the common denominator is greed and it's transparent on both sides.  But the players always comes off worse, at least from my perspective. 

Now we have Haynesworth who did get 25 million guaranteed just last year and now he wants out.  So I guess what it comes down to with these players is when is it good enough?  Will it ever be good enough?

I love sports but I would love to see these leagues shaken up a bit.  I'd love to see them collapse like the banks did when the market crashed.  Maybe sports could return to its roots.  Its lost its way.

The Haynesworth situation is different. This would be one of the few times I would side with the team. They gave him opportunities to be traded before he took the bonus, and he didnt take it. Screw him. If im the team I make him sit his fat ass down til he comes around.

To me thats like saying I side with the banks over the people. Or any coorporation for that matter. I think you would have a change of heart if how much these owners and NFL make books would be opened. The players is why this is the number 1 sport in america. I know we see big numbers and think they should be happy with what they get, and they should, but it is a buisness also, and to me 90%(maybe not this much but u understand what I mean) of the money should go to those athletes. But then again I think college players should get some money too so what do I know...

college kids should get a stipend or something so they can enjoy themselves, if they cant work then they should get spending cash...

we'll see what happens with Revis, I think from an onwership & fan pov, it is in the best interest of the jets to not give him a outlandish deal which is what he is asking for...

ESPN Morts reported this mourning that Reevis is the ONLY player in the NFL that is not in training come who signed a contrat.

That says a whole lot and more right there. Now there are reports Reevis might not even play this year. Reevis you SIGNED and HONORED a contract for THIS YEAR. Wise the fuck up you selfish idiot

I think you hit the head on the nail.  Yes Revis had a great year, but players that get that kind of money have great careers.  I will argue, very easily that last year he was the best corner in the game, but he needs to play his contract out and respect his decision as a rookie.  This is clearly horrible work on the part of Revis' agent, not taking control and coaching Revis how to be a star both off and on the field.  This crap of holding out and what not is going to put Revis in a similar spot to Randy Moss and Terrell Owens.  Moss made the right decision and he is reaping the rewards, Owens well I think that's self-explanitory.  Revis better smarten up or he's going to end up a great corner with a crap legacy.
