If Cleveland president Mike Holmgren was playing in a
fantasy football league, all the other owners would be cackling behind his back
about taking his entry fee.
Since inking a deal on Dec. 21, he has begun the task of
rebuilding one of the worst franchises in the league. And almost all of his
moves have been head scratchers. First, he decided to retain lame-duck coach
Eric Mangini, someone who insiders say the players loathed from the first day
of training camp and had little respect from his team.
Next, he decided to cut beleaguered quarterback Derek
Anderson – an understandable move – but combined with the unthinkable move of
signing Jake Delhomme, he virtually announced that Brady Quinn was available
and wouldn’t take much to move. I guess when you have a chance to bail on a
former first round pick and lock up a 35-year old who threw just eight
touchdowns against 18 interceptions last year for 2 years at 14 million, you
have to do it.
On Sunday, the Browns shipped Quinn to Denver for full back
Peyton Hillis, a sixth-round draft pick in 2011 and a conditional pick in 2012.
That’s a former No. 23 overall selection for a backup runner with an injury
history and a likely pair of late round selections who will struggle to make
the team.
It got even better later in the day, when the team shipped
outside linebacker and its best defensive player Kamerion Wimbley to Oakland
for a third-rounder. Wimbley, who led the team with 6.5 sacks last season, has amassed
26 the past four seasons and was chosen 13th overall in 2006.
So to recap, the team lost Anderson, Quinn and Wimbley for
an over-paid Delhomme, Hillis, a third rounder, a sixth rounder and a
conditional pick. Tell me how they are better off again? Cleveland entered the
weekend at 60-1 to win the Super Bowl next year. That number should change
substantially over the next few weeks.
How many wins are they good for this year? Three? Plus, they
play in the loaded AFC North. Good luck, Brownies. Maybe Isiah Thomas WOULD do a better job.

I understand cleaning house if that is what Homgren wants to do but we know that signing Delhome contradicts that whole theory. I would have rather go with a young Qb with an upside, oh they had one and traded him forget I said that.lol

Agree 100% with Carey. Quinn had to have a higher price that that. Holmgren got stupid while he was away for a year. I can't believe you dump to QBs that were young and have potential, for more or less nothing. I like Delhomme but he's 35 and not coming with much confidence, Wallace isn't a starting qb. wtf is he thinking?
Quinn has to be worth a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He hasn't proved he can't improve and he seems like he's dedicated. If Delhomme was going to win a sb, he would've done it with Carolina. Cleveland's got nothing.

Holmgren having faith in Seneca Wallace, having been his coach up in SEA. Reminds me of Josh McDaniels trying to get his qb Matt Cassell in to replace Cutler. Only problem is, Wallace is NOT starting qb material. He's average at best. Oh and he is getting up in age too. So now who will he be throwing too?
What's next, trade Josh Cribbs?
The Walrus cleaning house in CLE. What a joke.
CLE needs all the picks it can get. Back to square one like the days of old as an expansion team.

Denver got a dream deal, they basically got a 1st round QB for a dogturd and a couple rabbit turds.
Yeah lets go after peyton hillis when we could go after Brandon Marshall. Are we not allowed to pick up star players? WTF
Denver got a steal, for this reason. No one knows what Brady Quinn can really do. We got one receiver with any speed in Massaquoi. Thats it the rest is doo doo. Its a joke not one mention of Brandon Marshall. I swear we must not even consider a quality Wide receiver. Maybe the Browns are saving their money to help the cavs keep Lebron James. Thats all I can think of.
You can take the skills of Peyton Manning & Drew Brees combine them, and they will have a shitty year throwing to the receiving core we got. Its a joke. Trade Braylon for doo doo, its all a joke they are the laughing stock of the NFL fuking Holmgren can go eat shit makes me sick.
