Has anyone else ever wondered who makes the lines and how smart these guys are?

Apparently there are 5 main guys who make lines for every major sport bet on. Damn, whats it take to come across this job since vegas casinos put millions of dollars on the line trusting these guys sharp lines making.  Check it out pretty cool website!

(From what I understand)

LVSC are linesmakers, yes - and they send out what they think the lines should be to their clients (the books)

BUT

I don't think that the oddsmakers at the sportsbooks just blindly post the send-outs, especially the serious books.

Seems like there are two levels to me - LVSC & the serious books, and small books who just follow suit.

Im always a believer oddsmakers are former diehard gamblers who won a lot then the books get smart and just hire them to give their insight on games. I could be wrong but what better experience would an oddsmaker get then be a former degenerate themeselves.

I think these guys are bullshit.   Right now it's the guys working at Bookmaker putting out the line.  If seen the lines these peo[le suggest at Vegasinsider and sometimes they are 3 or 4 pts off.

Take Thursday for an example...

LVSC sent out NYG -2.5 @ DEN

I never saw anybody post it that low.

They are off alot of times too.  All they need to do is pick a number that they believe will cause a 50/50 split.  They want half the people to take one team, and half the other.  I could do the same for NFL.  I think alot of people could.

Ahhh, I think anyone who has gambled for a few years can guess the lines for NFL games fairly accurately.

Actually I've been told that one casino has 20 players that agree to bet $5K. The powers that be put out an opening line to this group (possibly this group listed). Then they review how they bet and adjust from there. This makes sense. No way the lines gets released to the public immediately, these people aren't stupid as we all know.

lvsc makes their line and SELLS it to books & casinos. Then they are adjusted by the book. they make hella cash.

Come on guys this is VEGAS!!! The people who set up the lines are not stupid and I really dont think that anyone can just go out there and make up a number and put it as a line.  If it were so easy then everyone would be doing it

Every casino has their own lin'er, some casino's as many as 5...

How bout the week where like 12 out of 15 dogs covered.  Or that week where majority of the favorites covers.  Not really an exact science.  Im sure there a mathmatical formula involved to give them a rough number adjust by the oddmakers.

Reason no body else posted it that low is because they have early wiseguys putting up real cash way before anyone post thier lines.
