hey everyone ...
Before this site collapses , I might as well tell you what I consider to be the best bet on the board this week ...
I am afraid this won't come until Monday ....
Ahhhh MNF brings memories of Glory days ...
It wasn't too long ago when I hit just about every single MNF side or total that I posted and wagered on .
I am not a huge fan of double digit spreads , and that's what we have on MNF this week ...but if I didn't think my team will win by at least a couple of touchdowns , I would be worried .
Worry not .
We are talking about the Oakland Raiders .
We are also talking about the San Diego Chargers
Their rivalry does not invoke memories of Dallas-Pittsburgh games in the 70's , but rather the rivalries that the 49ers and the Rams used to have in the 80's .
Right, pretty one-sided .
How one-sided ?
Well, the favorite in this matchup is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 meetings ...
and guess who has been favored mostly ?
Of course San Diego has ... 11 consecutive times...making this one the 12th consecutive time
You have to go back to the 2003-2004 NFL season to find the last time an Oakland team was favored over a San Diego Chargers team @ home or on the road .
During this span, Oakland managed to cover once , while losing 11 consecutive times .
Oakland is 0-11 SU vs San Diego
Oakland is 1-10 ATS vs SD
San Diego got off to a slow start last year as they began the year losing 5 of their first 6 games on the road ... losing in Denver , Miami , New Orleans , Buffalo , and Pittsburgh .
The only game they won out of those first 6 road games was @ Oakland by the score of 28-18 covering the 9 point spread in the process .
This year Norv Turner and company won't have to start far from home as they get to play a nemesis that they have soundly defeated time and time again .
Let us recall that San Diego did not get the benefit of an easy schedule at the start of last season .
Before SD could get a bye they started a game at home against the NFC South champions Carolina who won 12 games last season .
They then traveled to Denver , where they lost by one point .
They came back home to beat the NY Jets soundly , then hopped over to Oakland ( in preparation for their cross country trips ) and beat them .
Next , they had to go to Miami to face a surprising wildcat team in the East Coast , only to turn around to face New England @ Home ( whom they beat soundly )
Next , it was time to pack the bags and go to New Orleans .
Follow that up by coming back home to play Kansas City , and then pack up again to play @ Pittsburgh .
Then come back home to play Indianapolis and a surprisingly good Atlanta team .
With these two home games SD had found its mark again and won out the rest of their games making the playoffs where they beat the Colts , eventually losing to the SB Champions in Pittsburgh .
Make no mistake about it , This West Coast team did not benefit from the scheduling last year , when they began the year playing 5 out of their first 8 games on the road .
In the end , SD still was one of the elite teams in the NFL , losing to the eventual SB Champions .
Having their first road game of the season ( where they struggled out of the gate LY ) at Oakland ...and knowing full well they can't take any team for granted and must get off to a fast start , this hungry SD team will be storming into Oakland and if history is any indication , the result will be ugly !
