Louis Farrakhan is a misguided Muslim preacher. Farrakhan had said, "Sen. Obama is not the Messiah for sure, but anytime, he gives you a sign of uniting races, ethnic groups, ideologies, religions and makes people feel a sense of oneness, that’s not necessarily Satan’s work, that is I believe the work of God."
I can’t really defend Farrakhan. He says he is no longer an Obama supporter and the things I have just read about him, tell me he has serious mental issues. I guess Obama sees him as the crazy old grandpa that he has to pretend to be nice to.
Frank Marshall Davis was the first black press writer and he grew up in the 30s. If you grew up during an era, where black people were being hanged on a daily basis, right in front of you, and everyday you walk outside, you had to fear of getting hanged, you would be angry and bitter also. He called for cultural pluralism and tolerance for racial and economic difference.
Throughout Davis’s career, he championed the struggles of African Americans for equal rights and laboring people seeking fair wages and other benefits. So, whites are mad that he wanted to retaliate with the same violence that was thrown his direction his entire life. Because he wanted the US to give people free food, health care, and live in a classless hippie world, that he was a bad person?
Jeremiah Wright was a marine and navy serviceman. When you study American history and black history, see what America has done, and see what he went through, you would understand where he is coming from. He followed the ideologies of MLK and Malcom X. When he said “God damn America,” I think, he was saying that because he was referring to the politicians of United States.
Derrick Bell was the first black professor at Harvard. He grew up during the same era as Frank Marshall Davis. Bell was a civil rights activist. Bell is arguably the most influential source of thought critical of traditional civil rights discourse.
Bell’s critique represented a challenge to the dominant liberal and conservative position on civil rights, race, and the law. He employed three major arguments in his analyses of racial patterns in American law: constitutional contradiction, the interest convergence principal, and the price of racial remedies.
Three out of the four, I found absolutely nothing wrong with them. What is funny is that the same things being said about these men were said about Martin Luther King Jr.? They called him racist, radical, a terrorist and believe it or not… a communist. The reason people get all hyped up about these men is because they are either ignorant, living in denial or they have no idea about the real world and American history.
A black man reads about hundreds of years of slavery and mass genocide of his race and family background. Then is expected to try and move forward during the Jim Crow and Bull Connor era and is being attacked by whites for being angry, when the US is still in the middle of a furtive civil war?
Thanks for responding SS, although we disagree, I want to keep the political debate as civil and respectful as possible. I enjoy seeing a different point of view and trying to learn from it.
