I Gotta hand it to the Broncos

The only thing better than having jesus at QB is having God himself under center.

The signing of Peyton Manning may be the most expensive public relations move of all time....the only QB on the planet that the Broncos fans would have accepted over Tim Tebow is Peyton Manning.  This move shows just how uneasy Elway was with Tebow, yet illustrates his respect for Tebow nation.....he could have made a bid for Matt Flynn (this off season's QB du'jour),  but the need to save face was overwhelming...enter Peyton Manning, the one and only correct answer for the situation.

Now the Broncos can claim that Tebow is being tutored by Peyton for the "future" in order to keep his fanbase happy. Do not kid yourself, if Denver recieves a decent trade proposal involving moving Tim then they will move his ass fast, probably for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th round pick....it will be later on in training camp this season, after most loyal Denver fans have forgotten his wins from last season and are focussed on the season at hand....and have been watching a never ending loop of Peyton Manning highlights on ESPN for 6 months straight.

Two points:

1) Peyton will have to play a considerable number of games outdoors late in the season in variable weather conditions. This is new for him.

2)  The offense is not geared to air it out.  The wide recievers are below anything he has thrown to in at least 8 years, and that is a run blocking offensive line, the pass protection was brutal at times last year.

Someone posted in one of the other threads on this topic that "the denver fans will soon find out that Peyton does not play defense".....that is no shit.

Welcome to the NFL, Tim Tebow.....business is business, no loyalties, and a word  said in good faith today is worthless tommorrow.  Stack chips and keep working hard. Use the NFL to set yourself up for life.

So  the question becomes, "what would I do in that situation if I were Elway?"  As much as I went to bat for  Tebow last season during the stretch run........I would sign Manning.

Certainly a possibility.....Head coach Fox is a defensive guy though, he may trade Tebow to bulk up that D.

Good solid post, but I've got to disagree with #2. The o-line only became a run blocking once the offense centered on Tebow's style of play. Denver has a solid pro-bowl left tackle in Ryan Clady. The rookie right tackle is coming around and so with the interior line. Although I'm not sold on center JD Walton yet, but he is a tenacious guy so we'll see how that pans out. Also Tebow was sacked so much, mainly because he held onto the ball for way too long. That isn't Peyton, but then I'm sure you knew that already.

As a life long diehard Bronco fan, this is a great day for Bronco nation.

It's because Rodgers is a local guy out here, Champ.  Had you been around five years ago, you'd know I had Elway and the "Smilin Assassin" on the avatar at one time.

Denver has two very good young WRs in Demaryious Thomas and Eric Decker.

Peyton hasn't been bad in cold weather.  He has the same QB rating in games under 40 degrees that he does outdoors in all games.

It is entirely possible that Denver will live to regret the signing of Peyton...no arguement  on that point here.  I think it is interesting that Elway could not go after Flynn but went hard at Manning...now I am not saying that Matt Flynn is anywhere near what Peyton Manning is, but I believe that Elway would have loved to replace Tebow with either one. He just couldn't do Flynn because of Tebow's fanbase.

As for my own opinion...Peyton Manning is the originator of modern QB play. Peyton and Tom Moore at Indy really did make calling the offense at the line of scrimmage prevalent in the NFL...it is mimicked in nearly every NFL franchise nowdays, and with a few exceptions (San Fran) the upper echelon teams play that style of offense (with either a run bias or a pass bias).  I would have signed Manning as well......he is probably the only guy I would have went out and got to replace Tebow for next season. A healthy Peyton Manning with something to prove is a very dangerous man...he can take them a long ways in a hurry.

It is going to be a huge change for Denver as a team....they go from a young, positive reinforcement QB in Tebow, to a veteran ass-chewer in Manning.  People in the Bronco offensive huddle are not used to having their  QB rip their ass regularly. I suspect that is what was happening with Kyle Orton early last season and the team told him to pack sand....insert Tebow and everyone played hard and they won a few and made a run.

It will be interesting to see if the Broncos take a step forward or a step back this season with Manning....I am not convinced that Tebow will be on the roster for opening day, I think Denver will move him while his popularity is high and illiminate the chance of him filling in for an injured Peyton and making another run.

And no, it wasn't much work at all....I had a bit of time to kill today.

Those are good points about the o-line. I like Clady as well (Boise State guy) and think that it is extremely tough to determine how much Tebow himself had to do with all of the sacks....the Broncos were in 3 and long alot, which is the money down for pass rushers.

The pocket melting vs New England in both matchups is what sticks in my mind about the pass protection...Tebow was running for his life in both of those games, starting in the first half.  A less mobile QB would have gotten served even worse.

What is Peyton's outdoor rating compared to his indoor rating?  He had at least 8 games inside per year in Indy, he won't have that this year.

I don't care about the cold temperatures.....I care about wind, rain, snow, etc.  Biggest factor is wind....no wind in domes. 

Decker is nowhere near as fast as Jordy Nelson.  Nelson can fly.....I like Decker's size though.  He was amazing in college.

This is the third greatest day for Broncos, the first being the day they traded for Elway and the second, the day they drafted terrell davis

Fair enough on the ratings stats...I am not sure what defines a "wind" game in which the those ratings were compiled, but that is ok and not the point of this post.

Peyton is a great QB.  The Bronco's schedule has only 1 game for this coming season in a dome (@atlanta).  1 game out of 16 regular season games. 

If my raising the point  that the new environment (ie outdoor stadium and weather) could play a role in the performance of a 35 year old career dome Qb, that is coming off of 4 neck surgeries,  and that is somehow seen as "reaching" ......

Then you are naive at best.  

In regards to the Denver wideouts, remember: They had Tebow "throwing" to them.

I do.

The statistics will certainly improve... who knows how good they can be?   To say that the Denver's wrs are a top flight group as of today is an overstatement, but they will be given opportunities to catch alot of balls next season.

Denver needs a TE for balance.
