what I mean is I think these days studios don't have many original ideas left and try and milk it with certain repetive sequels re. Fast and the Furious, the half dozen or so Saw movies along with cringeworthy rom-coms,horrible remakes of classic movies of all genres etc etc
These days they just seem so reliant on CGI and over the top special effects. Back in the old days you had really great script writers and set designers, special effect guys which made movies more realistic and genuine

maybe I'm just feeeling nostalgic but I think most of the great movies came from the 70's,80's and early 90's

Do you really think they could do a good remake of The Godfather or Taxi Driver or Alien these days that would be as good as the original ??

this has been said for the last 10-15 years by many people. Not saying you aren't right, but it's not new thought.

I liked True Grit better than the original. The original was a classic, I did not  think it could be bettered, but in my opinion it was.

I am interested to see how Ridley Scott's Prometheus turns out. it's supposed to be somewhat of a "prequel" to his 1979 Alien and the trailers look interesting. I may even go see it in a theater and I almost NEVER do that.

there HAS been some decent "Alien" style SciFi lately like the 2009 German-British produced Pandorum

We really aren't the audience to support a blockbuster especially during the summer. Most of us rarely go to a theater, aren't 13-17 years old,and don't go several times to the same movie. We aren't interested in cute vampires/werewolves,movies that are video games expanded,or comic book sequels. I,like rat, will go see RidleyScott's latest and it will be the first commercial movie I've seen in a couple years. I relie on acouple expanded collections of dvds.

studios have run out of ideas, thats why they make so many sequels, thats a safe investment, theyre scared to take risks and be creative

The movies made today are garbage and that's because they're made for idiots who have an attention span about 15 seconds long. They can't make a two hour movie with a plot because people are too friggin dumb to follow it.

AMEN to THAT

also seems to be all about selling "tinkets" to kids and promoting garbage fast food. as the Mel Brooks character of "Yogert" said in his sendup of Star Wars, "Space Balls", "what do we do here? merchandising!!!"

The movies made today are garbage (don't agree)

made for idiots who have an attention span about 15 seconds long ( derogatory comment and not justifiable)

because people are too friggin dumb to follow it. ( totally dis respective generalization of people)
