Question

I agree with it first of all. Thought the press conference with the USGA handled all the questions very well. I very rarely see amateur golfers using a belly putter or an anchored stroke. I don't think it will affect the everyday Joe as much as the few professionals who use the anchored stroke.

I also like it. It&#x27;s a small amount of players affected and it also eliminates other possibilities of other devices or ways to gain an advantage putting. Good to stop it now before more and more amateurs start using it because I think it would&#x27;ve grown.

CM, Is it really an advantage?  I know like 3 of the last 4 Majors, a golfer has used the belly putter, but as The Golden Bear put it like 4 weeks ago.  Every golfer tries something differ or even uses the belly putter to practice, but goes back when a rd begins.  If its such an advantage, don&#x27;t you guys think every golfer [Professionally] would be using it?  I&#x27;m okay either way w/this ruling, but just my 2cents!!

I don&#x27;t think the belly putter by itself or an anchored putter is an advantage off the bat because of the time it takes to get used to it.  Honestly, I think that it what deters so many golfers from using it.  You literally have to take a couple months of practicing to get the feel.  I think the main reason is the future and what it could lead to as far as anchoring the club.

To make the sport interesting, they should make the rule: "If the golfer uses an anchored putter, they must use an anchored driver". I'd pay to watch Adam Scott try and drive the ball with his driver wedged into his stomach.

wouldn&#x27;t say it&#x27;s an advantage but I finally ditched my belly yesterday and putted with a normal putter and man was my roll horrible, think I made 1/10 4 footers.

I&#x27;ve used them all long belly and traditional..mallets blades face balanced roll face etc on and on...One day a friend was with me in the garage looking at my collection of resting clubs I noticed he was taking particular interest in my collection of putters and I said," quite a collection, hugh?" He chuckled and replied,"Show me a guy with all these putters and I&#x27;ll show you a lousy putter."  So true..so true.If you can putt you can putt with a shovel and these guys will adapt the cream will rise as it always does and the guys using a the long blade as a crutch will have to make the emotional adjustment.

I think anchoring the putter maybe doesn&#x27;t make you a &#x27;better&#x27; putter but I think it takes away the mechanics of golf that your body go through creating less mistakes.. So when your having an off day it could be less damaging..

Putting is odd it&#x27;s perhaps the simplest stroke in golf but the hardest to perform consistently although there is much to be said for technique it really comes down to confidence..it&#x27;s mostly a mental discipline in my opinion.The truly great putters are feel guys regardless of the club or stoke.

I feel the belly putter takes the nerve out of making pressure putts. When in pressure situations your hands become jittery and without belly putter u are prone to make poor stroke

This is the reason for all of it. But like Blue said if you get in a putting contest for 100 a hole who would you rather put against? A guy with a 1981 blade or a guy with a brand new scotty cameron? Matter of fact I will say that having a Scotty Cameron hurts the average golfer and they should be using a grooved putter and people like the "Attention" a scotty draws. But thats a different story for a different day.

I would much rather putt against a guy with a belly putter, Scotty, or the obscenely large mallets.

95% of the time they are doing it because the pros are or to look cool.

Show me a guy with an old school Ping Zing and I'll show you a good putter!

I putt with a mallet but thats because I am a believer in staright back straight thru therefore I want something heavy and faced balance with grooves. My whole putter collection is basically Yes and Guerrin Rife

Up until about 2 years ago, I putted with a 70&#x27;s gold &#x27;mini-golf&#x27; style putter.. It was really light you had to hit it decently hard.. Had a custom grip that kinda bent at the top.  Needless to say I was a great putter. I felt I was outgrowing it I happened to win a Taylor made ghost putter at a tournament, which I use now. My putting has been pretty bad while I adjust to this club and I sometimes miss my old 70&#x27;s putter because you had so much more &#x27;feel&#x27; putting with that thing. Fact of the matter is it doesn&#x27;t really matter what kind of putter you have but I do believe you need to keep the body mechanics of putting in the rules.

I do like the Yes putters...but just could never really get used to the mallet putters.  I&#x27;m a minimalistic player with the clubs...the less there the better in my mind because it makes you focus on the swing more.
