Tablet Recommendation

Question

Looks like the technology forum has pretty much gone the way of the dodo so I'll ask here.

Just need your standard stuff. Internet, e-mail, etc. Probably some game and other apps. No photo stuff or music.

I'd like a larger screen (maybe 8-10 inches). I'd like to spend less than 250. It would be great if I could get something for 200.

Anyone with any idears?

Easily the IPad is the best one I have had. I hate apple and have never bought one of their products, but received many as gifts and gave them away right away except this one it&#x27;s just unmatched. I had the galaxy and Xoom tablets and they were both crappy to where within a month I gave them to the kids to play their stupid games on. For $200 I would just get a used one as the newest one really isn&#x27;t much better then the second to newest one.

I would say so. You can always put it back to factory settings. I would buy a used iPad before a new Xoom or galaxy. Maybe it has changed in the past two years and Motorola and Samsung has upped their game, but I really can&#x27;t see anything out there that is better than the iPad. Everything is much faster, the picture is 10x better, it is extremely user friendly and I grew up on Microsoft.

Tablets are so expensive to produce that they are all priced similarly.

When the ipad 3 was new, they were still selling the ipad 2 for $359 brand new because it was essentially the same thing.

You can get one used in the $200-$250 range I think for an ipad 2. If all you're going to be doing is basic stuff you won't use all the custom benefits of android.

If you want something new, you could go for a Kindle Fire for less than 200.

If you step up to an Asus Transformer you're essentially paying for an ipad anyways.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Hated it. I had an Android phone at the time. Never really cared for Apple. Bought a month old "new iPad" off Craigslist for $400 for my wife and 12 year old, whose birthdays were a week apart.

It is now my iPad. I turned my PC off almost a year ago and have never turned it on since. I take it everywhere with me. You really don't need the one that comes with the option for data as WiFi is available everywhere. It does not support Flash which sucks but I deal with it.

You probably won't find a used one under $350 and Im sure the new model will be dropping any day now. If you don't mind spending a few hundred more, it will definitely in my opinion be worth it. Plus if you buy it new from a store and don't like it, they will return it for a full refund.

Bill is right.You get the Ipad and don&#x27;t look back.But get the MINI, not the regular sized one. Too big and bulky.Used is perfectly fine.There is nothing that compares to it on the market, not even close.It is overpriced new and at a decent value used.The problem is the used ones go for a much higher price than you&#x27;d expect for something that has wear and tear (up to $300! on ebay and even higher).At that point, you may as well take the Knicks/Pacers side and just win the extra money to get a new one.But, it&#x27;s worth every penny.

Thanks for all the advice (even you, scal). I have a bid in for $290 for an Ipad 2 ....auction ends in 20 minutes. We will see. I've lost out on 2 others in the last couple of days. If I can get in for less than $300, I'll take it.

And yes, I have been drinking.

Well if you won, get 4G LTE with a monthly subscription with AT&amp;T or Verizon unless you are using it wirelessly ONLY.Do not get JUST 4G for that service. It is TOO SLOW.If it is just a regular Ipad 2, you may only be able to get 4G.The mini has 4G LTE capability.That is very important. It will dictate whether you want to use the thing or not. It&#x27;s loading times are notorious for being slow unless you have 4G LTE. That is fast with a major carrier.If you are just using it for wireless, ignore all the above. (which it sounds like because you are trying to save money)

Scal, the monthly plan&#x27;s are outrageous for the data plan. Last I checked it was like $20 a month for only 2gbs of data. If you go over it could get costly. Also Hutch, the iPad 2 doesent have the Retina Display. Everything is crystal clear with it.

iPad 2 does have retina display.And as for the data plan, you need the $30 a month plan and then supplement it with the wireless at home and it won&#x27;t go over.

Get an iPad, Galaxy or Asus (Android). I have an Asus slider that&#x27;s really nice, has a sliding keyboard.

im searching for one now also.i have apple products and i wont go with ipad 2/3 etc.I saw one Lenovo 10&#x27;&#x27; tablet from a friend, he is satisfied with it. Anyone had experience with Lenovo?Also considering galaxy Note but i have that it doesnt support flash ( as all 4&#x2B; androids ) damn why stopping with flash support :(

Maybe you guys can help me. I need just wireless internet that I can use anywhere. I sell several types of insurance and if I am at a bushiness or somebody's home I need to pull quotes fast. This is something new to me because I always worked out of an office. Would a Tablet work or better off with a laptop.

I just bought the new ipad 4 last month. Paid $629 for a 16gb with wifi and 4g/lte. I love it and I&#x27;m glad I spent the extra money on the 4g/lte option. I only pay $5 per month for the 4g/lte.

Tablet all the way. Smartphone would work as well. See timbaland99&#x27;s post. I have no use for the data plan, as I really don&#x27;t need the iPad outside of my house. Kursh, you don&#x27;t want a clunky, heavy laptop. Check your local Craigslist for an iPad. You might get lucky. Just be careful. If money is not an issue, you purchase from a store and if its not for you, just return it.
