I'm meeting up with friends in Reno next week.  Got comped a room at Harrah's.  Anyone been there lately?  Any recommendations of where to gamble and eat?  Any places to avoid?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Harrahs is a dump

El Dorodo is the best downtown has to offer. Greg Carrano runs a good food program here.  Can't go wrong with Roxy's, Brew City or La Strada. The spa suites are good as well.

The Peppermill has some good action. Right acroos the street from the mill is a Meditteranean restaurant.  "Chef Maurice"  Its good to eat some fresh food after spending to much time in the casinos with only burger joints, coffee shops and steak houses (Which can be good too).  I like the Sushi bar at the mill.  Atlantis has a good sushi bar too.

Whatever you do to not get the "awful awful" burger downtown.  It will rip your behind out.

The Grand Sierra does this thing early morning at the craps table where they put up a make shift wall in the middle of the table to cut it in half.  You don't even have to roll the dice just drop them on the table.  Charlie Palmer Steak house is really good here.

Just returned from Reno.  Talking about a dead gambling town.  Most Californians are playing at the Indian casinos and not bothering to drive all the way to Reno.

Harrahs had only 3 $5 min tables open.  Blackjack pays only 6:5 with 8 decks.  The two tables that pay 3:2 for blackjack were $15 or $25 minimum during the day and $25 and $100 minimum in the evening.  The slots and video poker machines were very tight with a lot of glum faces.

Played some at the El Dorado and Cal Neva.  Some $5 minimum tables using single decks but only 6:5 blackjack.  Only 2-3 hands between shuffles.  Again brutal dealers and not much laughter.

We were comped everything because of a manager friend at Harrahs.  And the weather was very good.  Very little entertainment.  It was ok but we are not that eager to return soon.

Reno is the biggest shithole on the entire planet.

They should drop a nuke on that down.
