if you are black, do you think those black guys would treat you differently? and do you think those black guys would invite you over for dinner to have some finger lickin good fried chicken with grape soda?

  No.  There is no better place to tone up various muscles than with all the equipment you find in a gym, otherwise athletes would not regularly work out in one.  Also, as long as you go when it is not too crowded, you should not have issues with other people.

It's not worth the trouble and really, we're not talking about competing in Mr. Olympia here. You'll burn just as many calories and can work a muscle adequately on something else. Just work on another machine till the machine is open and then use it. You won't have to talk to a soul in the place, that guy or anyone else. Gyms aren't a place to socialize or fight.

Its a miracle, but I agree with Scal. Did you really just have to use the squat rack right then or the pulldown machine?

 I belong to a Golds up here North of Seattle.........a little different clientele than you deal with ricky, & likely a smaller gym. I've been a member there for about 10 years & have seen all types of idiots. Had a run-in a few years back with 3 younger d-bags that show up irregularly & act like they own the place. I let them know that standing around BS'ing near equipment doesn't mean you're using the equipment........

 Other than that there hasn't been a lot of problems. The serious people don't waste a lot of time in there & can stand-offish, but if you ask them something I found they're more than willing to take the time to discuss it.

 To respond to Scal's answer of "just use another machine" .......that isn't always possible. When it's packed there isn't a lot of equipment free to use. I've tried that but at times you can get impatient after waiting for some d-bag that does a set, checks his phone for 10 minutes, does another set, etc. When you're doing a particular routine, e.g. it's leg day, that there's limited apparatus for, it can be tough to through your workout. Most people don't have a problem letting someone work in, or they may just say they got 1 more set & they'll be done........MOST people.

 ........& no, there isn't a better place to work out than a good gym.

Mugg just gets it all exactly nails on. Been in the gym his whole life as I thought.... training.

The new generation of weightlifters will learn. They will get "çhecked" when attitude starts but it's very rare in the BB world.

Probably not.......I live about 30 miles north of Seattle. But I've found most Golds have similar gear. I like the no-nonsense approach.......no racquetball, no hoops, no pool.......just good weights & machines.

sounds like some people at the gym needs to get their assses kicked if you're not leaving anything out, but there's no proof they're on roid rage or what have you.  I'm pretty big on attitude and too many people just don't know how to act or even be polite.  I'd really love to know how these type of guys act when they have to stand in a long line.  I'd also like to know how they drive on the freeways and out on the roads.  To me it's no wonder that corruption exists. Because like people have said in here, you can't fight unless you want to be arrested or kicked out.  Never give anyone a reason to follow you behind your back when you would have never expected it.  
There are just way too many fukked up people anywhere you go, how do you deal with them?  It's not a crime to act like an assshole in the gym but i'd really be interested in summoning dexter morgan to investigate.  If a dog shows any signs of being vicious at the dog pound, they will not be adopted, unfortunately the law says that we are not allowed to put human beings to sleep.

i also realize that a lot of gyms like 24 hour fitness and la fitness have a lot of people who don't know anything about life.  In a town like los angeles, it might be worth it to pay double the money or more to workout with people whom i would hope would be more courteous.  In other words, if shitt was happening like this at say Los Angeles Athletic Club, that would be really fukked up man.
