It's 80 degrees 2 1/2 weeks into March but Management makes Troopers sweat in long sleeves...
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio state troopers are
hot under the collar in a dispute over who determines when they can
switch from long-sleeved to short-sleeved uniforms.
The Columbus Dispatch newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/GI5nfE ) record-high spring temperatures prompted the troopers' union to request the change earlier than specified in their contract.
Patrol superintendent Col.
John Born told the union on Thursday the troopers could switch early
only if management gets to make the call in future years. Troopers opted
to stick with long sleeves and ties.
The contract says short-sleeved, open-collared uniforms can be worn from April 15 to Nov. 1.
Union president Larry
Phillips says when the long-sleeved Ohio State Highway Patrol uniform is
worn with a tie and a protective vest, a trooper's body temperature
rises "significantly," especially in 80-degree weather.
A patrol spokeswoman says the superintendent is following the contract.
I don't blame the Troopers. They've learned the hard way too many times before, NEVER GIVE THESE MANAGEMENT PRICKS COMPLETE CONTROL because they will FUCK YOU EVERY TIME POSSIBLE BY WANTING TO CONTROL EVERYTHING.
Better to suck it up for a couple weeks and stay in control of your work environment.
Good choice Troopers.

Better yet, lose the ties and wear open collar year round.
Let Management wear ties year round in their heated and air conditioned offices.
The public should want their State Troopers as comfortable as possible year round because their lives are on the line, day in and day out, so fuck the ties completely. Let the Management pricks wear the ties.

Don't staties get to sit in air conditioned cars anyway?
They can be in and out quite a bit.
This sounds like petty BS, but when you are in a stressful job already, you don't need little daily aggravations. Management could have easily relaxed the requirements without playing any games.

If they were non-union they wouldn't need to be going through this contract bs.
The union that is supposed to protect them ended up screwing them. HMMMM
you just cant find enough things to bash unions for, can you? The insurance fuckin crook bashing people who are out trying to save lives and put crooks in jail and you want to bash them over this. I truly hope and am going to pray every night that you get hot with so much bad karma in your life, because you really are a solid dick with this non union crap. I notice how you never said one word about the non union workers who got fired for wearing orange shirts to work, even thou there was no rule against doing it. Yup get rid of the rights of workers and just let management be able to fire somebody for wearing a color shirt they didnt like that.
The same way you got fired form the plant, i hope you get canned from the insurance company.
So go ahead keep bashing the people who put their lives on the line protecting little desk jockey pussies like you.

This is really a matter of just plain common sense. You would think management would want their officers not over heated, but bash away, desk jockey. Get any papercuts this week working in that dangerous environment you work in?

Union contracts are amended all the time when needed.
You act like Management was making some HUGE concession that was going to cost them time and/or dollars.
Well IT WILL. You don't think the Troopers will remember this slap in the face??? That sword cuts both ways. The Troopers will now feel obligated to deny any Management request now, even if it is reasonable.
Q) Where does that get anybody?
A) Nowhere
No question Management looks like BIG TIME assholes here.

It is very much common sense. Its in the contract that they have to wear long sleave shirts for two more weeks.
The union swas dumb enough to allow that language in the contract.
Management probably considers how the relationship has been over the last few months. (How many questionable/trivial grievances were filed) Then they determine if they will look the other way or not.
Common sense would say they should look the other way on this. Unless one or more of the stewards has been a pain in the ass of management. Then common sense would say they should wait until they are not contractually obligated.
Either way, I wish everyone was born with common sense. Oh well!
p.s. Notice CD offered no argument again? Notice CD tried to take a stab at my chosen profession again?

CD I have never been fired from a job and never had the mentallity that I needed other people to represent ME.
I believe in an employers right to fire anybody for any reason.
I could be wrong but it looks like there is something else going on with those that were fired from the law firm.

Can you believe this clown? Thats right, he wants our workers to have no fucking rights and get fired for anything the boss wants to fire you for. Yup maybe the boss doesnt like the car you drive to work, so out you go. Maybe the boss doesnt like that you are a democrat, so out you go. etc etc This clown could be one of the biggest jerkoffs to have ever posted on this site. He wants everybody fired because he got fired from the plant and now his occupation is robbing people on a daily basis from his 4x4 cubicle. I cant wait until he gets canned from this job.

If they were non-union they wouldn't need to be going through this contract bs.
So if they were non-union does that mean they would have their choice? Or do think maybe they would have a dress code imposed by management?
The union that is supposed to protect them ended up screwing them. HMMMM
So you assume the union was the one to put that in the contract.Have a link to back it up? Seems your hatred for the unions has clouded your judgement.

I think if they weren't unionized and therefore had no contract, perhaps it would just be a standard and left up to individual divisions. Officers in that division could decide ( as a group ) if they were gonna go short or long sleeves
I would imagine that it is management that wanted it in the contract. Not the smartest standard for the rule. They could have had temperature or left an option for a vote or something.
I also would imagine that the union steward is probably a thorn in the side of management already or they would have possibly made an exception. Depends on if the union cries like a baby all the time or not. IMO
