Auburn coach Bruce Pearl makes what figures to be an emotional coaching return to Thompson-Boiling Arena for the first time since being fired at the end of the 2010-11 season on Saturday when the Tigers face Tennessee in SEC action. Pearl led the Volunteers to six straight NCAA Tournaments, four Sweet 16's and an Elite Eight appearance in his six years in Knoxville where he averaged 25.2 wins per season. He was fired by former Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton for lying to NCAA investigators about recruiting violations.

Pearl spent three seasons out of coaching before taking over at Auburn this season with the help of a recommendation by Hamilton. He still remains popular in Knoxville where over 40,000 Tennessee fans signed a petition last year asking the school to rehire him when Cuonzo Martin left to take the head coaching job at Cal. "We know how much it means to him," Tigers guard Antoine Mason said, "and that (a win) could change our whole season around."

ABOUT AUBURN (10-10, 2-5 SEC): The Tigers bring a three-game losing streak into the contest, including a 71-61 home loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday that saw the bigger Aggies win the rebounding battle, 36-29, and finish with a 42-14 edge in points in the paint. Point guard Tahj Shamsid-Deen, who is the team's top perimeter defender and is averaging 5.7 points per game, left that contest late in the first half after re-injuring his right shoulder and Pearl is unsure if he will play against the Vols. Guard KT Harrell leads the team in scoring (17.1) while 6-foot-7 junior forward Cinmeon Bowers is averaging a double-double (13.5 points, 11.2 rebounds).

ABOUT TENNESSEE (12-7, 4-3): The Vols will be out to snap a two-game losing streak that includes a 67-61 home loss to Texas A&M and a 69-64 road defeat at Arkansas on Tuesday. Guard Josh Richardson, the only senior on the roster, leads the team in scoring (15.6) and assists (3.5) while also shooting 41 percent from 3-point range. Guard Kevin Punter (10.7) also is averaging in double figures while guard Armani Moore leads the team in rebounding (6.6).

1. Tennessee is averaging 7.6 steals per game and is plus-1.8 in turnover margin.

2. Bowers is tied for sixth in the NCAA with 12 double-doubles.

3. Auburn is 0-7 in road games this season.

PREDICTION: Tennessee 62, Auburn 57
