Will there be NFL next season? You can bet on it

Enjoy the post-Super Bowl hangover while you can, it may be your last one for a while.

With the Packers capping off the 2010-11 season with a Super Bowl XLV victory, the attention of football bettors swings to the looming NFL lockout. And with owners and players seeing eye-to-eye like Manute Bol and Mugsy Bogues, books are bracing for the possibility of no football next fall.

But, like any good sportsbook, Bodog.com is making lemonade out of lemons and posting odds for the NFL offseason – extended or not. Their biggest post-Super Bowl prop involves the dreaded lockout and, according to oddsmakers, it doesn't look good.

An NFL lockout is priced at -300 for next season, with “No” set at an optimistic +200. Worried pigskin addicts can also wager on the number of games played next regular season. A big goose egg is priced at +350, one to 15 games is set at +150, 16 games is at -150 and, with the possibility of an 18-game schedule, 17 or more is listed at +750.

Adding to the offseason props available are some of the NFL's aging superstars, who are question marks heading into 2011-12. New York Jets veteran linebacker Jason Taylor is a -175 favorite to return to action with New York in Week 1, while his retirement is priced at +150 and a move to a new team set at +500. Other players available for predicting their place next season are Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson and Bengals QB Carson Palmer.

Interesting. The second bet is somewhat contradictory to the first. It looks like they are saying there will be a lockout but it will be over before it does any real damage to the regular season. I think that is my best guess as well although I don't have anywhere near the appropriate confidence to actually bet money on it.
