NFL betting: Pats backers stung after dubious FG

.Backers of the New England Patriots were hit hard Sunday afternoon as the New York Jets prevailed 30-27 in overtime on a controversial field goal by kicker Nick Folk

The Pats closed as 3.5-point road faves and squandered a 21-10 halftime lead as the Jets racked up 17 points in the third quarter.

New England kicker Stephen Gostkowski tied the game with 16 seconds remaining on a 44-yard field goal, forcing overtime in the heated-AFC East battle.

It was in OT when a new penalty had been enforced.

Folk missed a 56-yard attempt, but it was called back when Chris Jones was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for pushing a fellow Patriot forward in an attempt to block the kick.

The Jets conservatively ran the ball three times and promptly set up for a much easier 42 yarder, which Folk hit, giving the Jets the victory.

Per Mike Perry, an oddsmaker at, the Jets were 20/1 in live betting early in the third quarter before they mounted their comeback.

Perry also confirmed that they had two players who each placed $500 wagers on the Jets at that 20/1 clip in live betting.

I'm not saying all games are fixed, but football seems to get the highest number of ridiculous outcomes sometimes. Now the refs didn't throw pick 6s Brady did to let the Jets go back ahead. But they did give them a chip shot field goal because of some made rule. Football rules have gotten beyond technical. No matter if you want to get the calls right or make the game safer it doesn't matter. This call wasn't right nor should it be a rule and football will never be a safe game. It's being ruined by bogus rules.
