ESPY odds pulled off the board after suspicious betting

Jon Campbell
Oddsmakers at online bookmaker have closed ESPY Awards futures bets due to suspicious betting activity from the New York and Connecticut areas.

ESPN is headquartered in Bristol, Connecticut and holds an annual award show - The ESPYS - to honor the top teams and athletes around the world from the past year.

Oddsmaker Mike Perry told Covers an unusual amount of betting activity came in on LeBron James to win best male athlete and the Miami Heat to win best team.
"We had one customer from Hartford earlier today asking for 'over the bet limit' ($500 max bet) on both," he said. "We hardly got any action then all off a sudden Tuesday morning we got these multiple max limit bets."

The Heat were set as the third favorites to win best team at 4-1, behind the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team (2-1) and the Baltimore Ravens (3-1). moved the Heat's odds to 5-2 before taking them off the board. LeBron was 3-2 at Sportsbook and is around that number or more heavily favored to win best male athlete at the small handful of books still offering odds.

Perry said they "thought it was weird" this particular player was so keen on making an over the limit bet on LeBron at 3/2 odds when Adrian Peterson was a co-favorite and Miguel Cabrera offered a much better payout. Cabrera was the first player in 45 years to win the triple crown.

"Definitely appears to be a leak," Perry said. "We hadn’t run the ESPYs for four to five years because of same thing." is still dealing ESPY odds on Best Team, Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete:
