TCU starting QB suspended; odds on the move
TCU starting quarterback Casey Pachall has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested for a DWI early Thursday morning. The Horned Frogs will now start redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin in Saturday's game against Iowa State.
Most books had TCU as a 10-point home favorite early Thursday morning and the total sat at 43.5. But several offshore sportsbooks like bet365.com
quickly moved TCU to a 7.5-point favorite upon hearing the news Thursday afternoon and moved the total down two points to 41.5.
The Las Vegas Hotel's SuperBook moved the line to -7 in Las Vegas, but a few other books held the line the line at 10 or took it off the board according to Covers' detailed line history
Boykin is a dual-threat in the backfield who has completed 9-of-10 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. He also has 12 rushes for 122 yards and it was thought he might even see some time at tailback this week against Iowa State with injuries to TCU's running backs.
"We actually have more offense with Trevone Boykin in the game than we have with Casey Pachall in the game," TCU head coach Gary Patterson said on XM Radio today.
The Horned Frogs carry the nation's longest winning streak of 12 games into Saturday. According to ESPN Stats & Information
, "TCU's eight remaining opponents have a .792 win percentage, tied for the best in the FBS. The Horned Frogs' first four opponents had a combined .143 win percentage, one of the lowest in the FBS."
Pachall was previously in some hot water during the offseason after his roommate was arrested and he admitted to previous drug use
, though he wasn't suspended at that time. Some reports trickled in Thursday evening that Pachall would be on the sidelines in uniform Saturday but wouldn't play.
TCU is 2-2 against the spread this season and all three of their games with a posted over/under line played under the number.
