The Miami Dolphins have accepted HBO’s cameras into their huddle this offseason for the popular sports documentary series Hard Knocks.
Many teams declined HBO’s offer, stating that the constant coverage would serve as an added distraction to their preparation. And perhaps there is some validity to that point.
Over the six previous seasons of Hard Knocks
(2001-2002, 2007-2010), the featured teams finished a combined 49-47 and 45-48-3 ATS. Perhaps a more telling stat is that Hard Knocks
hosts are just 2-4 SU and ATS in their Week 1 contest.
During the preseason, when the HBO cameras are present, Hard Knocks
teams are a collective 10-13 SU and 9-14 ATS, including a 0-4 preseason record from the 2007 Kansas City Chiefs. The last two teams to be featured on the show – the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets – went 2-2 SU and ATS in their tuneup games.
Here’s a look at the last six Hard Knocks
teams and their betting records:
2001 Baltimore Ravens: 10-6 SU, 8-7-1 ATS, 1-2 SU and ATS preseason
2002 Dallas Cowboys: 5-11 SU, 7-8-1 ATS, 3-1 SU and ATS preseason
2007 Kansas City Chiefs: 4-12 SU, 7-8-1 ATS, 0-4 SU and ATS preseason
2008 Dallas Cowboys: 9-7 SU, 7-9 ATS, 2-2 SU preseason, 1-3 ATS preseason
2009 Cincinnati Bengals: 10-6 SU, 7-9 ATS, 2-2 SU and ATS preseason
2010 New York Jets: 11-5 SU, 9-7 ATS, 2-2 SU and ATS preseason
Miami opened as a 6-point road underdog against the Houston Texans in Week 1. That spread has been bet up to a touchdown. The Dolphins' season win total is set at 7.5 wins.
is a five-episode series and will debut on Aug. 7.
