Thursday MLB Free Play from Doc’s Sports Take #973 Washington Nationals over Baltimore Orioles (Thursday, 7:05pm EST) It’s time for the Washington Nationals to make their surge. The Nats have battled injuries for the entire season, but they’re 100% healthy now and their roster stacks up with anyone in baseball. They’re 11-5 over their last 16 contests and are playing like everyone expected when the season began. Gio Gonzalez gets the ball in this one and he’s quickly found a nice groove since returning from the disabled list. The left-hander hasn’t allowed a single run over his last three outings, which spans 21 innings of work. He’s also only given up nine hits combined in those starts to go along with 19 strikeouts. He gets a dangerous Baltimore Orioles lineup on Thursday, but one that swings for the fences often. Gonzalez doesn’t allow many long balls, so I think he can take advantage of the aggressiveness of the O’s lineup. Southpaw Wei-Yin Chen toes the rubber for Baltimore. The Nationals have pounded left-handed pitching this season, so they should get some good swings on Chen in this one. These teams have similar records, but I like Washington’s outlook more so than Baltimore’s. We also have the better starting pitcher, so we’ll take the Nats here. Week 3 of the CFL has arrived and Doc's Sports has you covered with a full card you cannot afford to miss. 78-53 run in baseball and expect more of the same on Throwdown Thursday!
