$1 million WSOP buy-in to create biggest poker purse ever
The World Series of Poker is upping the ante this year, requiring a $1 million buy-in from participants that will reportedly leave the winner with a record $12.3 million top prize.
Tournament officials announced Thursday that 30 players have committed to play in the The Big One for One Drop which begins July 1 in Las Vegas.
The final table’s action will be broadcast live on ESPN, with the winner also taking home a platinum bracelet.
The field is expected to be a miss of wealthy amateurs and at least 10 professional players. Some of the pros that have signed up include Daniel Negreanu , Johnny Chan, and Tom Dwan.
As of now, 30 players have paid their buy-ins, but the field could grow to as many as 48 participants. In that case, the winning purse would end up being around $18.3 million.
About 11 percent of each buy-in is being donated to One Drop, an organization dedicated to bringing water to poorer countries.
