Ice picks: Sunday's best NHL bets

Washington Capitals at Florida Panthers (149, 5.5) odds provided by logans

With goalie Semyon Varlamov suffering a knee injury that will keep him out for up to 10 days, the Capitals will be forced to turn to Michal Neuvirth full-time. But that might not be so bad.

Neuvirth has given up a mere five goals over his past three starts, winning them all. Over that span, he has a sparkling .943 save percentage and an equally stellar 1.67 goals-against average. Before the injury to Varlamov the duo has split time, but now with the recent play of Neuvirth, it appears the youngster has the opportunity to seize the No. 1 spot.

"It's been a big opportunity for me playing every game, and that's what I like," Neuvirth said. "We've got a tough schedule ahead of us but I think I can handle it."

And it’s not like the Panthers have been scoring a lot of goals.

Florida has just six goals over its past six games and is a mere 1-5 over that span. Not surprisingly, the team has converted only one of its past 20 chances on the man advantage. Overall, the Panthers are averaging a mere 2.4 goals per game, the 28th lowest total in the league.

"We’re professionals here, and it doesn’t matter what place you are in," Florida defenseman Mike Weaver said. "We have some new faces and bodies. We just have to work hard, outwork the other team."

Pick:  Washington

Nashville Predators at Calgary Flames (-135, 5)
odds provided by logans

Three weeks. That’s how long it’s been since the Predators cracked the three-goal mark. Over that span, the team is just 3-6 and has notched a pathetic 15 goals. One of the players taking the most heat over this drought is Swedish forward Patric Hornqvist.

The dynamic skater has 18 goals this year but has lit the lamp only three times over his past 19 games. Nashville is hoping a recent score against Vancouver will shake him out of his funk.

"Some guys in here have to step up and I am one of those guys who has to score some goals," Hornqvist said. "Of course you want to score, no question about it. As long as you get chances, the goals are going to come."

But the goals have come in spades lately for Calgary. The Flames are continuing to be white hot with their wide-open style, notching 14 goals in their past three games. During that stretch, Jerome Iginla (4 goals, 3 assists) and Renee Bourque (3 goals, 2 assists) have been nearly unstoppable in the offensive zone.

"This year," Iginla said, "especially in the last 30 games or two months or so — we've felt like whatever the score is we can come back."

Pick: Calgary

5-0 now over the last two days with Wsh today winning and Vancouver tonight. Van winning 2-0, but the game is not over. If they win that will make 6-0 with a nice early morning NCAABB Kansas.

Flyers -110 20 units: They have won five in a row head to head and the beat the Rag$ at M$G twice this ealier in the year. Booocher plays well on the road and if the Rag$ continue on their current trend (winning on the road and losing at home), the booo birds should be in high gear this afternoon from their perch in the blue's.........................................Lost the Wings last night 10 units @-125

I had an awesome night on Saturday going 4-0 for +4.2 units and winning every day in March so far. I just added it up and this is my best winning streak all season. 13-2, for + 11.94 units with 1 parlay and 2 underdog bets and 1 Under that was +120 on the ML in the last 5 days.............For Sunday the lines came out for me at Sportsbook.com so I made my bets tonight. I am going with 3 Unders and hopefully I win at least 2 of them. The stats just keep getting better on these teams...........Friday was the 10th Under in the last 12 games for New Jersey, the other 2 were PUSHES on 5. so NO OVERS in 12 games for Jersey. The Devils' opponents have not scored more then 2 goals in those 12 games. in their last 5 games there has not even been 4 goals in their games with scores of 1-0, 1-2, 2-1, 2-1 and 2-1 again!! Yes, the Islanders are scoring a bit more but if you look at their 2 recent games versus the Capitals ( a 3-2 and 2-1 game), you can foresee the same thing happening against the Devils.............................................. I am also back again on the UNDER in the Predators game, this time the Total is 5, after the last 2 were set at 5.5.....Before I get to Nashville's streak, these 2 teams have played 3 times already this season and Calgary won all 3 and 2 went Under, one got a push on 5 with scores of 1-0, 3-1 and 3-2.............Rinne and Nashville's amazing streak just keeps going and after Thursday, it got 1 game better.........This season the Preds have gone Over only 19 times in 65 games (9 pushes and 37 Unders). The Under is also 8-0-1 in the Predators' last 9 road games. And my favorite stat = ONLY 1 game has gone OVER in Pekka Rinne's last 17 starts!! 12 Unders and 4 Pushes when the Total was 5, and 1 Over............one more good Under trend is that the Under is 10-4-1 in the last 15 meetings in Calgary................................... And my last Under brings me to the team with the most Unders in the entire NHL, = the Capitals. These numbers are not just good, they are staggering and crazy good. The Caps have gone Under 47 times with only 17 Overs and 1 Push, a 73.4 winning % on Under........The Under is 26-6 in WAS last 32 road games (a 81.25 winning %). These 2 teams have played 3 times this season and 2 went Under, 1 went over, with Florida winning 2 of the 3 with scores of 3-0, 2-3, and 4-3........Washington has gone Under in 3 in a row and 6 out of their last 7. And Florida has gone Under in 4 in a row coming into Sunday's game..... so 3 Unders for me today.........UNDER 5 Devils (+105) vs ISLANDERS, 1 unit...................UNDER 5.5 (-135) Capitals vs PANTHERS, to win 1 unit...............UNDER 5 (+110) FLAMES vs Predators, 1 unit.............Good Luck to everyone!
