Report: Giants QB Manning has plantar fasciitis

The New York Giants, unbeaten in both the NFL and spread standings, may have had their Achilles' heel exposed.

According to an ESPN report, quarterback Eli Manning's heel injury is plantar fasciitis.

Manning was hopping and limping for several plays in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 27-16 win at Kansas City before leaving after throwing a 54-yard TD pass to Hakeem Nicks.

Reports after the game said the Giants were "very optimistic" about the extent of the injury. Manning had an MRI on Monday which confirmed the report. Athletes can play with plantar fasciitis based on its severity, but the only true remedy is rest.

Manning told ESPN radiuo in New York that it is not his whole foot that is afflicted. "It's just kind of a portion of it," he said.

The Giants are 4-0 straight up and 3-0-1 against the spread. After playing three straight road games, they host the Oakland Raiders as a 16-point favorite on Sunday. The total is 41.

Manning has not missed a game in five seasons, during which the Giants are 2-3 when favored by double digits. If he does not play, David Carr would get the start.

Why would Oakland pick up a RB? They have Fargas and Bush...McFadden is out only 2-3 weeks...Bush will start....they still will not get many points if any. Like the Giants and the Under..

Take the points and under on this one. The Giants will start Eli, but he will be pulled quickly because of his foot. Along with any other guys who are beat up at this point of the season. Oakland will probably make a pick-up at RB to help replace McFadden.

As a Giant fan, Ithink I would si Eli for the Oakland game. Carr is a good backup, and there is no way we can lose to Oakland.
