Not just in the US but CANADA numbers even worse, down 30%.
Leafs and Nucks both suck and low scoring snore fests got folks changing the channel. The league is dragging it's feet on cutting down on goalie's pads (or expanding goal size), plus adding a Vegas (and Quebec City) team which could add some excitement back into this nonsense.
They better do something fast, collegiate rugby on NBC is out drawing NHL games.

All teams are cloning each others play. Speed up and down the wing and trapping thru the middle to prevent that speed from happening, All teams with monster goalies and monster equipment. Nothing differentiates the teams nowadays as the league deters personalities as well. But after all this, I still watch 90% of the games

This is nothing new man. I posted on this topic after last years brutal viewership ratings here in Canada during the playoffs. The NHL is an American league that sold Canada's game down the river years ago in a desperate attempt to create hockey cultures in California, Florida, Arizona etc and in doing so lost a lot of their Canadian fan base. I remember trying to explain to some American posters on here how the Canadian sports stations did not want a couple of NHL playoff games on at the same time as a Raptors playoff game because everyone will be watching the Raptors, the American guys did not understand this because there is this stereotype of Canadians and hockey, which is basically bang on, we LOVE the game, but most of us HATE the NHL so it is two very different things. People here would have and did watch that Raptors game in mass numbers and even though the hockey games came on after the numbers for both games were extremely low. Canadians are fed up with the NHL, they could give a crap.
I have way more fun when I go to Toronto Marlies games than I do at Leafs games and I am neither a Leaf nor Marlies fan, but the game is better, there are fights, it's more intense and competitive, and the cost is 10% of the greedy Bettman league. I'm an older guy and watch because I am still in love with what was once the NHL so I hang on as a fan and follow my team but if I was a young guy I would not be watching that crap league. I would still be playing and watching hockey but not the NHL. It is a garage league as Mario called it years ago (he was bang on) and it has only gotten worse and it is run by a greedy little snake that has nothing in mind aside from bending over for certain American viewers in areas he feels hockey needs to be cultivated. While spending all their time doing that they have crapped all over their loyal fan base and they are now pretty close to standing on a proverbial corner with a cup in their hand. Let's move to Las Vegas that will solve everything.

Stop gambling on it completely and then see how much of it you watch. That is the real test. Watching something because we have a financial or personal competitive interest in it (hockey pool etc) has nothing to do with actual real interest in the game or league as a fan. Maybe you would still watch as much i don't know brother but stop gambling on it for a few months and then see how much you are watching the NHL in November or December.
