2024 World Series Odds: Phillies Getting Stronger by the Week

Following Ronald Acuna Jr.'s unfortunate season-ending injury, the Philadelphia Phillies have hopped up to the second spot on the World Series odds board. They have a commanding NL East lead and might not face much opposition until October.

With Ronald Acuna Jr. out for the season with a torn ACL, the balance of power in the NL East is shifting even more in the Philadelphia Phillies' direction.

The Phillies have leaped in the MLB odds thanks to a phenomenal start to the season that appears sustainable for the long haul.

Let's take a look at the latest World Series odds.

Favorites to win 2024 World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers (+280 to +300)

The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost five straight games and were outscored 7-2 over the final two games of their series vs. the Cincinnati Reds. This is their first five-game losing streak since April of 2019.

Thanks to the rest of the NL West playing generally poor baseball — though the San Francisco Giants have won eight of 10 — the Dodgers still have a 5.5-game division lead.

Their depth is being tested, particularly on the pitching front. They should get Bobby Miller back soon, though, and Clayton Kershaw is expected to be a late-season addition as well.

And it's worth being slightly concerned about Freddie Freeman. Yes, the veteran first baseman still has a .284 batting average, but that would actually be his worst mark in a full season since hitting .276 in 2015. His .443 slugging percentage is more alarming as it would be a career low. With the benefit of hindsight in October, we might look at this concern as nothing more than a blip. But the aging curve comes for us all.

The Dodgers play a two-game set at Citi Field vs. the New York Mets before heading home to host the Colorado Rockies over the weekend in a pair of prime get-right matchups.

Philadelphia Phillies (+500 to +525)

The Atlanta Braves losing Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season seems like it was the last straw for sportsbooks. The Philadelphia Phillies have been playing excellent baseball for weeks and have owned the top spot in the NL East for quite some time. Now, the division is theirs to lose.

They've been somewhat fortunate in the health department, but Trea Turner has been on the shelf since early May. While his hamstring still isn't 100%, Turner's return will bolster an already fantastic offense. That's gotta be scary for their opponents.

The Phillies will likely be aggressive at the trade deadline, bolstering the rotation and bullpen ahead of the postseason run.

They open a three-game set against the red-hot San Francisco Giants to wrap up their West Coast swing before returning home to face the St. Louis Cardinals.

New York Yankees (+500 to +550)

The New York Yankees own the best run differential in the American League at +92 and lead the AL East by two games over the Baltimore Orioles.

Aaron Judge is hitting like everyone expected him to before a fairly pedestrian start to the season and Juan Soto might be even better — though, don't tell Hal Steinbrenner that, because the Yankees apparently don't have enough money.

Nevertheless, with Gerrit Cole working his way back to a rotation that has performed well above expectations in his absence, this looks like the most complete Yankees squad in years and could be their best shot at winning a World Series for the first time since 2009.

They continue their West Coast trip with six games against the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants this week.

How to read MLB World Series futures odds

Sportsbooks will post World Series futures as soon as the previous season concludes, and some even sooner. These betting boards are constantly adjusted throughout the winter and ensuing season as players get hurt or are traded. Once the regular season begins, World Series odds will change daily as teams win and lose games, and as more players are injured or traded. Sportsbooks will also adjust the World Series odds based on handle and liability to certain teams.

World Series odds will usually look like this:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers +240

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $240 if the Dodgers win the World Series. If it's close to the end of the season or MLB has a very dominant team, you could see a minus sign (-) ahead of a team's odds.

  • Atlanta Braves -150

This means that if you bet on the Atlanta Braves during the 2020 MLB season, you would have needed to bet $150 to profit $100 if the Braves won the championship.

Above we have posted the American odds for the World Series. However, these are easy to convert to decimal odds or fractional odds with our odds converter tool.
