Connecticut has had Los Angeles' number this season, and their advantage on the interior will be the difference again, our expert says in his Suns vs. Sparks predictions.

The Connecticut Sun will look to continue their recent success against the Los Angeles Sparks as the teams meet at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday night.

Los Angeles is coming off one of the worst losses of the WNBA season, and I'm picking Connecticut to continue its misery in my Sun vs. Sparks predictions.

Let's break down my free WNBA picks for Saturday, Aug. 22.

Sun vs Sparks prediction

Sun vs Sparks best bet: Sun +4.5 -105

The Los Angeles Sparks have lost six straight, including a 124-88 defeat to the Atlanta Dream on Thursday.

The Sparks haven't played defense all year, allowing 93.6 ppg, but now the offense has gone cold as well, scoring just 82.3 ppg over their last eight contests

The Connecticut Sun defense leads the WNBA in block rate (11.2%), which has led to two wins this season against a Sparks team that scores 46.6% of its points in the paint.

I like the Sun to cover as an underdog of any size, and would consider backing them on the moneyline as well.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Sparks are allowing a league worst 1.18 points per scoring attempt, a rate that Los Angeles' anemic offense simply can't keep up with.

Sun vs Sparks same-game parlay

The Sun and the Sparks have played twice this year, with both games finishing at totals of 165 points or less. While the Los Angeles offense has slumped recently, Connecticut has never had much scoring in its lineup, averaging just 79.3 ppg on the season. The Under is the side to back for totals bettors tonight.

Former UConn center Olivia Nelson-Ododa has played well for the Sun as of late, averaging 17.7 ppg over her last three appearances.

With Brittney Griner inured, Nelson-Ododa is getting more playing time, and she put up 18 points against the Sparks on Tuesday. I'm backing her to hit the Over on her scoring prop at 14.5 points.

Sun vs Sparks SGP +575

  • Sun +4.5
  • Under 169.5
  • Olivia Nelson-Ododa Over 14.5 points

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
