Mystics vs Sun Predictions, Picks & Odds for Today’s WNBA Game

Marina Mabrey may not be happy to play for a rebuilding Connecticut Sun side, but as Phil Naessens explains, there will be plenty of opportunity for her to shine offensively.

The new-look Connecticut Sun host the Washington Mystics in their 2025 season opener in a matinee matchup at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Connecticut will look to Marina Mabrey to lead their offense, and my Mystics vs. Sun predictions expect a big scoring day for the former Notre Dame product.

Read on as I share my WNBA picks for Sunday, May 18.

Mystics vs Sun predictions

My Mystics vs Sun best bet: Marina Mabrey Over 16.5 points (-106 at FanDuel)

Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey isn’t a happy camper these days.

The Notre Dame product didn’t like the Sun's direction and asked for a trade this offseason. Connecticut didn’t grant her request, and Mabrey is stuck playing for a rebuilding franchise.

Maybrey’s unhappiness aside, she’ll have the green light to fire away, and the 28-year-old sniper is one of the best at landing three-point baskets.

Maybrey is coming off career numbers from beyond the arc; she made 36% of her 6.2 attempts split between the Sun and a Chicago squad from which she demanded to be traded.

Mabrey is also a versatile scorer; she can hit the mid-range or post up the younger and less experienced Washington Mystics on the block. Tina Charles' rebounding ability should also create additional scoring opportunities for Mabrey to take advantage of.

Maybrey is the Sun's primary scoring threat, and she's up against a mediocre Washington shooting defense. Mabrey scored 13 points in 19 preseason minutes and should play at least 30 minutes today.

She’ll get the open looks and should score at least 17 points against this Mystics defense.

Mystics vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Marina Mabrey Over 16.5 points

Marina Mabrey Over 2.5 threes

Stefanie Dolson 2+ threes

I like the Mabrey scoring prop primarily because of her three-point shooting ability.

Mabrey can shoot the rock. She made 42% of her threes across 16 games for the Sun and 34% of her attempts with the Sky.

Washington allowed 33% from downtown in their season opener, but Atlanta missed several wide-open looks, and if Mabrey gets four to seven open jacks, she’ll make three of them against this defense.

Mystics center Stefanie Dolson knocked down two of three against the Dream. The career 40% shooter from beyond the arc might get more long-range opportunities, trying to keep Sun legend Tina Charles outside the paint.
