The Red Sox made a huge splash this offseason by signing Alex Bregman, one of the best third basemen in the sport. The veteran has had a hit in all but one game so far in the 2025 season, but Thursday was evidently his coming-out party. Bregman went 3-for-4 against the Orioles with his first home run while smacking two doubles and collecting his first three RBI of the year as well. That’s my focus here. As we know, hitting is contagious. When you’re confident at the dish, it can easily carry into the next day. Bregman just tore the cover off the baseball. He only has one career at-bat versus Erik Fedde, who will start today for the Cardinals. That being said, Bregman slashed .286 last season against St. Louis with two hits and an RBI.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
