Six-time Gold Cup winners, the USA, will begin their tournament against Haiti on Sunday at Children's Mercy Park. After winning the tournament in 2017, the U.S. fell to Mexico in the 2019 final, after El Tri had knocked Haiti out in the semifinal.

While the USMNT are favored to take a competitive Group B, Haiti will face difficult competition with Canada to progress, after they lost a two-leg World Cup qualifying matchup with the Canadians.

USA vs Haiti predictions

Moneyline pick

Gold Cup hosts the United States enter the tournament in great form, having recently dismantled Costa Rica in a friendly and defeating hated rivals Mexico in a wild Nations League final. While the USMNT are on the cusp of possibly their most talented generation of players, their Gold Cup roster is not at full strength, with most European-based players given the summer off. That being said, the U.S. are still one of the tournament favorites and boast plenty of talent.

The spine of the American team is secure despite the absence of players like Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams, as Jackson Yueill, Cristian Roldan and Sebastian Lletget are veterans of the national team, joined by veteran 'keeper Brad Guzan and plenty of MLS and USMNT experience along the backline.

It's going forward, however, where the USMNT will really excite. A late arrival to this era of American soccer, Daryl Dike, is set to lead the line for the United States after a rapid rise over the last year, and he absolutely dominated Costa Rica in his most recent appearance. The big names like Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna may be absent in attack this summer, but Dike could make a similar impact with his goalscoring prowess and earn a massive transfer to Europe this summer.

Haiti's pace is a legitimate danger to backlines, especially in a physical region like CONCACAF, but they looked completely off the mark in their recent World Cup qualifiers against Canada, and the Americans are bringing plenty of experience. The USMNT will get off the mark without problems.

PICK: USA (-375)

Goalscorer pick

One of the most exciting young Americans in a promising generation will make his competitive debut at the international level on Sunday, as Orlando City's Daryl Dike is set to feature after three friendly appearances.

Dike stormed onto the scene during the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan in the English Championship with Barnsley. Dike scored nine goals in 13 starts as a 20-year-old in one of the most physical leagues in the world, helping Barnsley to charge up the table to fifth, as he seamlessly adapted to the league after an eight-goal rookie season in MLS.

Dike has since returned to Orlando City and has started strongly, with two goals in three starts, as well as scoring his first goal for the United States on his first start in a friendly against Costa Rica.

The 21-year-old has proven to be a clinical finisher at every level and in every competition in his young career, and Championship experience will have him well prepared for the tenacity of CONCACAF competition. Count on Dike to mark his USMNT competitive debut with a goal.

PICK:  Daryl Dike - Anytime goalscorer (-129)
