Premier League predictions for Sunderland vs Everton

My Sunderland vs Everton best bet: Iliman Ndiaye 1+ shot on target (-120 at Sports Interaction)

Sunderland’s push up the table has coincided with allowing just seven goals on the season, but it’s worth noting in those 10 matches, they’ve played four teams — West Ham, Burnley, Aston Villa, and Wolves — whose xG ranks among the five worst teams in the league.

Despite this, only Burnley and West Ham have allowed more shots per 90 minutes than the Black Cats, and they’re allowing the fifth-most shots on target per 90, with opponents testing their goal 4.22 times on average.

Everton are averaging just three efforts on goal per 90, the third-fewest in the league so far. When they do, Iliman Ndiaye is often involved. Whether he’s setting up the shot or taking it himself, he’s notched 28 shot-creating actions through nine matches.

Ndiaye has shots on frame in three of their last four, failing to do so only against Crystal Palace’s stingy defense. He found success against West Ham and Tottenham in recent outings, teams also near the bottom of the league in that metric.

Only Jack Grealish has more touches in the attacking third this season for the Toffees than Ndiaye, and his 29 touches inside the box are the third-most on the team.

Combine that with a club-high 24 successful take-ons already, and he’s going to be a threat all match.

Both teams to score

Everton have been quite poor away from home of late, losing three of four on the road in the league. Meanwhile, Sunderland have taken 10 points from a possible 12 at the Stadium of Light, outscoring opponents 8-2 in the process.

That said, Grealish is a problematic playmaker, and Everton will present more of a threat than either West Ham or Nottingham Forest did in their visits. Everton won’t be held scoreless again, but Sunderland will find a way to all three points in a competitive affair.

Another factor that should lead to both teams scoring a goal here. There will be a lot of wind in this match, with gusts of almost 40 mph expected at times. This will lead to some very difficult situations for goalkeepers and defenders when defending balls in the box.
