Arsenal are going through a difficult period and need a strong performance against Sporting CP in the Champions League quarterfinals to reaffirm their status.

The Gunners beat Sporting 5-1 in November, but I expect the rematch to be far more complicated for Arsenal. Here are my Sporting CP vs. Arsenal predictions and free betting picks for April 7.

Sporting CP vs Arsenal picks and predictions

My Sporting CP vs Arsenal best bet: Draw at Halftime or Fulltime (-118 at Sports Interaction)

Arsenal have never won away against Portuguese opposition in the knockout stages of a major European competition.

Sporting CP are strong at home, having won all five of their Champions League matches at Alvalade this season. However, they have never beaten Arsenal in seven previous meetings.

Sporting have scored 13 goals across their last three competitive matches, so Arsenal will need to stay focused defensively. Considering this is a two-legged tie, and based on the more pragmatic version of Arteta’s approach that they’ve shown this season, there’s little reason to expect Arsenal to push aggressively.

A draw at either halftime or fulltime looks like a solid option.

Sporting CP vs Arsenal same-game parlay (SGP)

Viktor Gyokeres 1+ shots on target

Sporting or tie double chance

Sporting Over 3.5 shots on target

Over 8.5 corners

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres scored six goals in eight appearances for Sporting in the UEFA Champions League last season. He could become the first player to score both for and against the Portuguese side in the competition.

After a difficult start at Arsenal, he has started delivering. He has 11 shots on target in the eight UCL games he's played for Arsenal this season, scoring four goals.

Sporing have been flying recently, with three convincing wins in their last three games, including a 5-0 triumph over Bodo/Glimt to get themselves into this phase of the Champions League. The emphatic win came after a 3-0 away defeat, and it tells a lot about Sporting's impact at home.

Given their appetite for goals, I'll also be opting for the Over 3.5 shots on target from the Portuguese side.

Sporting had 16 corners in the Bodo/Glimt game. There should be plenty of action at both ends against Arsenal, so I'm topping my parlay with Over 8.5 corners to get my return to a nice +650.
