Charlotte FC vs
New York City FC
Pick: Charlotte FC (+115)
Charlotte looked to have found something last week in their 2-2 comeback draw against Cincinnati. They’ve taken 11 points from six home matches, and I’ll back them at plus odds against an NYCFC team with three goals in four road fixtures.
CF Montreal vs
Portland Timbers
Pick: CF Montreal (Odds)
The Timbers are one of the worst road sides in the league, and make a cross-country trip to face Montreal. The home side has claimed three straight victories in front of their supporters, as they’ve quietly improved after a rough start to the season. They’ll get a fourth straight dub here.
D.C. United vs
Chicago Fire
Pick: Draw (+250)
The Fire are unbeaten in their last three away from home, but this will be a tricky match. DC United have claimed a draw in three of their four home matches, but they’re coming off a draining draw at Nashville at the weekend.
Chicago’s lost three straight, and are struggling to score. I expect a low-scoring stalemate.
FC Cincinnati vs
Inter Miami
Pick: Cincinnati (+190)
Congrats to Inter Miami on their win over Toronto, but I’m still not buying in. Evander will cause problems for the Herons all night long, and I’m not passing up Cincinnati at this price with how well they’re attacking at the moment.
New England Revolution vs
Nashville SC
Pick: New England (+180)
Fatigue is going to finally catch up to Nashville. This is their sixth match since April 25, and they were fortunate to get a draw against DC United. New England are not getting the respect they deserves, and this price reflects that.
New York Red Bulls vs
Columbus Crew
Pick: Draw (+275)
The Crew would be fourth in the East if their matches went the way of xG. But when you aren’t finishing chances, you don’t get results. That said, facing a NYRB team allowing the most xG per shot is a good way to get back on track, and I like them to get a draw on the road.
Orlando City vs
Philadelphia Union
Pick: Orlando City (+195)
The Union haven’t scored a goal of their own in three matches, and are allowing the third-worst xG per shot defensively. That’s a bad combination to have, especially against an Orlando side that have scored 14 goals in their last five matches in all competitions. I like the Lions to get a win at home.
FC Dallas vs
Vancouver Whitecaps
Pick: Vancouver (-102)
Vancouver’s 1-1 draw with San Jose was an impressive result, especially with Thomas Muller out of the lineup. He’s traveling with the team and will play a part on Wednesday against a Dallas outfit that has been quite inconsistent. These are two of the best defenses in the league, but I’ll back the better attacking unit.
Minnesota United vs
Colorado Rapids
Pick: Minnesota (-130)
James Rodriguez came off the bench to assist both of Minnesota’s goals against Austin... and then he boarded a plane for Colombia to prepare for the World Cup. The Loons will wonder what could’ve been had he been healthy his entire time there. Thankfully, they won’t need him on Wednesday against a Colorado side that has taken one point from the last five matches.
Sporting Kansas City vs
LA Galaxy
Pick: LA Galaxy (-122)
Sporting KC’s performance against the Timbers on Saturday was one of the most humiliating in MLS history, as they trailed 4-0 after just 26 minutes. They allowed six goals from 1.50 xG, and have now been outscored 28-4 in their last eight matches. The Galaxy are playing well, and their pace and talent up front will rip Sporting up yet again.
St. Louis City SC vs
Los Angeles FC
Pick: LAFC (+137)
LAFC needs to make a statement after the 4-1 defeat to Houston. Denis Bouanga will be back from suspension and will have fresh legs. He should cause problems for St. Louis City’s defense. The hosts have scored just 10 goals compared to 15.37 xG, and their lack of finishing will cost them a chance at an upset or a draw.
Real Salt Lake vs
Houston Dynamo
Pick: Real Salt Lake (-139)
Houston are coming off a 4-1 win over an exhausted and struggling LAFC side, and their confidence is high. That said, traveling to altitude to face this RSL side will be difficult, especially with them having won five of six home matches this season. Diego Luna will continue to make his case for a World Cup roster spot.
San Diego FC vs
Austin FC
Pick: San Diego (-147)
Both San Diego and Austin rank among the worst defenses in terms of expected goals allowed. The problem for Austin is they also have the second-lowest xG at the other end. They’ve conceded 17 goals in six away matches and won’t enjoy facing a San Diego side that picked up an impressive draw against Seattle at the weekend.
Seattle Sounders vs
San Jose Earthquakes
Pick: San Jose (+260)
The Sounders won’t be happy about that draw, given they managed one goal from 2.53 xG. That followed a stunning 1-1 draw with Sporting KC the week before. Not a great time to face a San Jose side that has conceded just eight goals in 12 matches. San Jose’s only loss was a 1-0 defeat to Seattle, where they had 2.35 xG. That won’t happen again.
