Inter Miami and FC Porto will each be after three points and a strong chance of progression in the 2025 Club World Cup when the two sides meet Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The Herons were fortunate to get a draw in their opening match, and have numerous injury concerns with a match on short rest. Porto also were fortunate to not taste defeat in their opener against Palmeiras, and will want to pick up their seventh win in nine matches.
My Inter Miami vs. FC Porto predictions and FIFA Club World Cup free picks explain why the Portuguese side should find plenty of scoring chances on Thursday, June 19.
Inter Miami vs FC Porto picks and predictions
My Inter Miami vs FC Porto best bet: FC Porto Over 5.5 shots on target (+125 at bet365)
One of the reasons we’re taking Porto to register at least six shots on goal is because bet365 is offering the prop at +125 odds. That is a major outlier, given the -150 price at DraftKings and the -145 odds at FanDuel. As such, I strongly recommend you go ahead and lock it in as early as possible.
But it’s not the only reason we’re backing the Portuguese team to pepper the Inter Miami goal. Perhaps the biggest reason is because everyone else is pretty much doing it to them.
Al Ahly failed to score in the opener against Inter Miami, but not for lack of trying. The Egyptian attack put eight efforts on target from 11 shots, and were unfortunate to not score given their 1.98 xG on the night — including a penalty that wasn’t converted.
Six of Inter Miami’s last seven opponents have managed at least five attempts on target, and four of their last five have had at least six such shots. They’ve also allowed double-digit shots in 12 of their last 14 matches.
While Porto have had more than three shots on target in just two of their last eight matches, they’re doing a great job at creating chances in dangerous areas. Inter Miami’s defense is conceding far too many counter-attack opportunities right now, not to mention the turnovers in dangerous areas.
A big reason that Porto has struggled the past two months to put shots on frame is because many of them get blocked by teams that are bunkering in. That’s not something they’ll have to deal with against the Herons. Inter Miami has blocked just 46 shots in 16 MLS matches, the seventh-fewest in the league.
The price of +125 to get six attempts on goal against Inter Miami’s leaky defense is far too good to pass up. They have a striker in Samuel Aghehowa who averaged better than three shots per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal play, and I expect he and Fabio Vieira to test Miami’s goalkeeper frequently in this one.
Inter Miami vs FC Porto same-game parlay (SGP)
FC Porto Over 5.5 shots on target
Lionel Messi Over 0.5 shots on target from outside box
Rodrigo Mora to score or assist
Lionel Messi has scored goals from outside the box in three of his last four matches, failing to do so only against Al Ahly. That said, he nearly scored an absolute stunner deep into stoppage time from outside the penalty area.
We’ll back him to test the keeper from distance again, especially with him on free kick duty.
Prior to the draw with Palmeiras, Rodrigo Mora had been on fire. He either scored or assisted in seven of his last nine matches in Liga Portugal play, with seven goals and an assist in that span.
He’s a gifted technical player who can get into dangerous areas against this Inter Miami defense, and I expect him to be involved in at least one of their goals.
