Canada are -196 favorites when they host Ireland in their final World Cup tune-up on Friday at Saputo Stadium in Montreal. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, with coverage available on TSN.

With the World Cup just days away, expect Canada to place a greater emphasis on defensive organization after a shaky showing against Uzbekistan. Ireland aren't known for playing wide-open matches either, preferring a compact approach that can frustrate opponents and limit quality chances.

That's why my Canada vs. Ireland predictions are backing Under 2.5 goals.

My Canada vs. Ireland best bet: Under 2.5 goals (-141 at Sports Interaction)

Canada looked rusty defensively against Uzbekistan, but I expect that to be a major point of emphasis in this final World Cup tune-up. With the World Cup days away, Jesse Marsch is likely to prioritize defensive organization over chasing an entertaining result.

Ireland aren't built to turn games into track meets either. They're comfortable defending deep, conceding possession, and forcing opponents to break them down.

The numbers support that outlook. Eight of Canada's last nine matches have finished Under 2.5 goals, while both teams have scored in just two of Ireland's last eight contests.

With Canada likely rotating personnel ahead of the World Cup and Ireland content to absorb pressure, this projects as another cautious, low-event affair. The Under is playable up to -155.

Canada vs Ireland same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 2.5 goals

Canada

Over 8.5 corners

I'm pairing the Under 2.5 with Canada's moneyline and the Over 8.5 corners.

While this match should be low scoring, Canada still have every reason to push for a result. This is their final World Cup tune-up, and a victory would provide another confidence boost heading into the tournament. Ireland have also struggled away from home recently, losing five of their last eight road matches.

The corner count should benefit from the expected game script. Ireland are likely to spend long stretches defending, forcing Canada into sustained spells of possession. Canada generated seven corners against Uzbekistan, and another match spent attacking a compact defensive block should create plenty of opportunities to clear the 8.5-corner mark.
