Guys 1st off this is my 1st post in the NHL forum. Not really a hockey fan which suprises most people seeing i live in a state who has a city with the nickname hockeytown. Looking back at it now the NHL lockout the last time ended up making things better. Spreading the wealth. I Fehr we'll have another 1
I write Fehr because of Donald Fehr. The man hired to run he NHLPA. Who will do his damndest to make sure the players get a ton back that they lost last time. Fehr was bad for baseball. He wouldn't budge on anything. I don't blame the players for hiring him.
A lockout is bad for 12,000 reasons. But for the NHL their lockout could start during the beginning of football seasonAnd you know ESPN will cover it after they're done talking about Tebow wiping his ass with cottonelle. Players have to remember owners can own a team forever. players can't play forever. Those checks you lose thats money you'll never get back. Guys i hope i'm wrong. Most people in michigan are due to the winter classic being in ann arbor.
Trust me i know my 1st post in the NHL forum is a doom and gloom post. I'll say i hope i'm wrong but being a huge baseball fan and seeing Fehr pillage the game I Fehr i'll be right. NHL,NHLPA GET A DEAL DONE!!!!!!

from TSN.ca, Commissioner Gary Bettman made it clear during Thursday's bargaining session in New York that the league is prepared to lock out its players when the current agreement expires Sept. 15.

Sure to my hockey god Orr, they learned something last lockout.
But I can tell ya the players won't take any salary reductions, but what can the owners say here ? They are the ones that are giving out these freaking huge contracts for the past few years.
Now I do support the entry level contracts. But bottom line is that the owners need something in place to protect them from thierselves. And if the owners need something like that, then I say the players should get every single cent they can.

The owners allowed gary to expand into the sahara and now wants the players to pay for it. Makes sense to me. There are hundreds of players that have a job in which their owner can't afford and is losing money. The league wont con-tract any teams bc that would insinuate that gary the god was wrong. So the league will keep these embarrassing franchises and have the players pay for it. The only ones that should be upset are the players that are on teams that make money. If i was a player on the Coyotes, i wouldn't say a peep bc you are not earning your pay. There will be a strike unless the players bend over again, this is guaranteed. But the issues aren't as deep as the last lockout, so the strike shouldn't last too long. F U gary for ruining the best game on earth.

If I recall correctly the owners "won" the last time around and now once again they claim they can't operate under the current cba? The truth is this league is being held back by dead weight, seriously fuck Long Island, Phoenix, Columbus and who ever else can't even average 8,000 fans a game. I'm in favor of a system similar to the mlb where the big market teams can do whatever the fuck they want and the small market welfare teams are gratefull for the handouts.
To continue this uneducated, uninformed Malibu rum rant another example that this league needs to downsize a few teams is the goaltending situations in TB and Columbus, last year they were nothing short of brutal and what did they do this offseason? Bobrovsky and Lindback. Is there not more than 30 or so NHL calibre starting goaltenders on the fucking globe?
Dissolving a few teams would in theory reduce the amount of stupidity anytime a decent player is available via free agency, supply and demand people.

lance, buddy?fuck long island? if anyone did thier fucking homework, they would know a clause in the cba, prohibits the islanders from collecting revenue sharing, the same thing they paid into when things were good! the owners themselves suffer ALL losses! unlike phoenix.

Hey Potvin I beleive I used the work uniformed, anyways it's a damn shame a team with a rich history like the Isles play in a outdated arena in a market flooded with pro teams. In the late 90's the Nucks franchise was going down the toilet with a horrible on ice product, the whole currency exchange thing, poor attendance and unsteady ownership, John McCaw saved the franchise, took on heavy losses and only really got involved as a favor to the Griffiths family. As unpopular as Mike Keenan was around here at the time I wonder if the Nucks would even still be here if he didn't trade for Naslund and Bertuzzi, the cornerstones of the early 2000's and the turnaround of the franchise.

Hey Lance L. After Bure and the rest of the 94 team was gone, I lost all interest in the Nucks, until 2001 I took my son to a Halloween carnival in GM place (he was 2) Ohlund, Bertuzzi(best power forward), Almo, and Rookie Brian Allen were there to B.S. with. Hell you could just walk up to Crow and Burkie and have a chat....It was awesome and even though Burke was the bad guy in Vancouver they turned things around and it was until the WCE happened I was back into a die hard canuck fan..Youtube "the freight train" with big bert (you prob. have seen this) from then on go nucks....Every franchise well most have a dark time and the only ones who suffer is the fans...Islanders have a history and will turn things around. As much as the Red wings have all that star talent on the ice I can get a $12 ticket or cheap tickets to watch the desert dogs.. If the league does not settle something the NHL will have a black eye. If it does not already.

yes most teams have their ups and down and all that shit, but in this day of age a successfull franchise needs to own their rink, not lease, own, luxury suites, concessions, parking, concerts, advertising, all that shit, untill Charlie Wang owns his own areana, that franchise will continue to die a slow death.

Have a bad feeling about this one. They just went through this 8 years ago and everyone thought it would put a dent in the "smaller" NHL by wasting a full season yet most would argue they came back stronger than ever. The owners know this and will most likely let happen again and therefore will be willing to sit back until the players cave in for the second time. Under Goodenow the players basically gave the owners everything they wanted last time and wasted an entire year in the process. Maybe Fehr knows better and they will be prepared to give in sooner but in my opinion the owners will not budge much if at all because they know that long run even wasting a year to get the deal they want will not drastically hurt the league. The fledgling markets like Florida and Phoenix that go a year without hockey will bounce back again with their 7,000 anyways as most of them are just transplanted Canadians.
When you have a team like the Detroit Red Wings cancelling rookie camps 1 full month in advance I think it's a very bad sign.

there are intelligent people on both sides of this dispute which makes it all the more amazing how the collective IQ can be so small as to defy measurement...
no sooner than owners reveal they want to cap contract lengths at 5 yrs than philly signs wayne simmonds to a 6-yr deal...
karmanos/rutherford in carolina are big-time blowhards on controlling player costs so naturally they throw a fortune at jeff skinner...
small-market nashville can't afford weber; presto, they make him the 100+-million-dollar man...
the grassroots fan has zero impact on how/when this gets resolved; the sooner we accept that, the sooner the whinging, the 'how-can-they-do-this-to-us' mercifully ceases...
look, nhl hockey as it exists now is wayyyyyy beyond the limit of affordability for the average fan who bleeds his/her team colors; all that matters at league HQ and the NHLPA is sales of season tickets to corporations, merchandising revenue, and luxury boxes filled with CEOs, suits, assorted high rollers and their bootlickers, none of whom cares a whit beyond their wall/bay street portfolio holdings...everything else is fat-lip service
if fehr draws a line in the sand,im thinking this will be a long ugly affair...
think a slip-slidin bataan death march...
and yet i hope the players don't cave...
oh, it'll all be settled in due course; they'll slap silly the goose that lays the golden egg but nobody is dumb enough to euthanize it...
the thing is the nhl is already an afterthought in 30 per cent of its cities anyway; the rest of us who seriously give a damn have the baseball pennant races/playoffs/world serious and the NFL to amuse us till these morons decide to get over themselves (which they will...until the next set of contract talks that is)...

Man, been bracing for this when Donal Fehr was brought into the fold, he doesn't fuck around. Looks like we will all be capping AHL games this year. Seems like the stupid owners and Buttman are punishing the players for their own excesses.
